* Advertise in your local paper.
* Put prices on everything, some people are too shy or impatient to ask and will just leave.
* Don't price things to high, but allow a bit extra for people who will bargain with you.
* Have lots of change on hand.
Good luck!
Ooohh Trish - didn't think of the newspaper. Too late now though :( It's tomorrow.
I have priced everything and have a blackboard with prices on it also. I have heaps of change (is about $200 in low notes and change ok or should i get more?)
Other than the furniture there is nothing prices more than about $5 (i don't want to have to move anything LOL)
Any other suggestions anyone?
Ive only done one and was early this year!
I had no idea what i wanted to sell things at and ended up giving away some great bargins! i wish i had made a list of prices i would like for items.
for example i sold a set of fully working pinoneer SS speakers for $5! (i just wanted the stuff to go lol)
also sold a leather purse (brand new) for 50c!
Have a sausage sizzle (maybe $2 a roll) on the side so people stand around longer?
make sure you have a finish at time on there and a start time so then people aren't rocking up when you're setting up and aren't turning up late as and you've finished if you know what I mean?
Oh forgot to add - we have an open house that day too. We purposely planned it that way ;) More people :)
Check this one out ;)
Be prepared for weird people turning up an hour early, waking you up. Then, after they come back 10min before the advertised time, going through things that are marked $2 and offering 50c.
Put a note on the door - do not knock/ring before X time.
If you're lucky, a trader will turn up at the end of the day and take away all the stuff you didn't manage to sell and were wondering how you were going to move them out of the house :)
Keep an eye on the float - have someone man it at all times. Make sure there's nothing there you don't want to sell.
Sell the bigger stuff on ebay.
