So Umm my brother smokes wacky tobacco in his room, my parents havent told him (not that i know of) to smoke it else where He has no consideration.. I'm 22wks 6days pregnant.. You'd think they would have told him to smoke it outside... i mean i can handle the smoking of ciggies but not that stuff...
By me smelling it , it wont effect the baby will it? as im not actually smoking it just inhaling the fumes (if thats what it is im doing lol)??

Especially when bub arrives... smoking cigerattes hugely increases the risk of SIDS, let alone pot! yikes!

I've told him he needs to smoke it else where and x fingers my parents smoke outside once bubs is here. Told him he has no consideration smoking that stuff around his pregnant sister.... Grrrr I'm speaking to my parents tonight when they are both home.

I would ask him or get your parents to ask him to stop, IMO it would be like smoking and breathing in the smoke it's a big no no. I guess it depends on how strong the smell is. Get him to go outside if he has to do it.
the smell is strong as his room is only 2 doors from mine. He will be smoking it else where once ive finished speaking to my parents. I DO not need that around myself or bubs

passive smoking is just as bad for you as smoking and just as bad for your baby.
i would suggest asking your parents to smoke outside NOW. or moving into a smoke free house :)
yes smoking and passive smoking marijuana isnt good for either of you aswell

I shall ask my parents ever so nicely to smoke outside hoping i get the answer i want lol.. Other wise i will have to stay locked in my room lol. I get a feeling my parents will say its our house blah blah blah .... But like seriously all i want them all to do is smoke outside, my partner is staying here at the moment and he does the right thing whether he smokes his ciggies or white ox and smokes outside. Why cant my parents do the same... Grrrrr
Passive smoking of any kind is harmful to your baby. Your parents should realise this and they should absolutely prohibit any smoking in the house while you are there, but it is their house and they have every right to smoke there, even if it isnt the right thing to do.
If you cant stop people from smoking in the house, then you really need to take some responsibility for your unborn child who can be quite affected by these substances. It probably is in the best interests of the health of your child if you just move out.
Why don't you visit your locl Community Health Centre or even GP and grab some brochues on not only Passive Smoking but the serious health effects it can have on bubs. Cig smoke can actually be a cause of SIDS and God knows, no one in the right mind would wish that upon anyone. I hope your amily listen and take heed. *hugs*
I forgot to say that a midwife or whoever, by examining the placenta after birth can tell if a person has been exposed to 2nd hand smoke / smoker themselves. Apparently it can be black.......
Yep, I was asked with both my last 2 pregnancies if I was a smoker! I am a social smoker when not pregnant, yes, but ciggarette smoke makes me vomit when pregnant. I can't sit next to someone with a ciggarette. DH can light one up in the garage with the door open & I can smell it the second its lit from the other end of the house & our house isn't small!:
So from that IMO any amount of smoking is having an affect on your baby. Sidestream smoke can actually be worse than smoking the ciggarette itself, as when you are doing the smoking it goes through the filter. Sidestream smoke is not filtered in any way.
Its very hard, & smokers are very, very stubborn about their rights. I agree that some leaflets about the dangers on your baby are a good idea. Not sure though how much info there is if you aren't the smoker yourself.

another thing about smoking is that it can increase the risk of the baby getting sick once it's born, I think it can cause meningitis when a smoker kisses a baby... Can't remember all the details but bottom line is that smoking whether it is passive or you smoking is incredibly bad for you babys little lungs!
I was a smoker and I quit the night I found out I was PG and have not hung around smokers since.... You are the only person that can protect your baby rght now!!!

So an update My mum smokes outside:) my brother smokes his crap out the back :dance: and was shocked this morning to be told my dad was having a smoke outside! Yay. Now i didnt expect him to smoke outside straight away but it would be nice.. my child wont be the only one that will benefit from them smoking outside.. my parents other grandkids will also benefit from it.
Speaking to my midwife about some handouts that might help also? i didnt think to ask when i had my first appointment with her on friday
