Is this normal? (baby poo post)

Hey guys,

My little one is exclusively breastfed and I read that it's normal for bf babies to go for long periods of time without a poo. She hasn't had a decent nappy filler in over a week now and has terrible wind (pulling her knees up and screaming at times) which is also really smelly and she strains and pushes to get them out.

Is this normal?
She is on losec for silent reflux and one of the side effects of the losec is constipation - I really hope that she isn't suffering from this as a side effect of the medication.

Any advice/ thoughts?

:hug: Its awful seeing them in pain hey....Ds2 ws just the same really windy nd only would go once week..he did his fisrt mec poo on the day we left the hospital so I was freaking out...I hope she goes soon and has a bit of relief :hug: x

i know exactly how you feel, i think the longest mine took between poos was 2 1/2 weeks, which was very common for her. She would also cry alot and i could tell it was from wind. Although all the professionals would tell me that it was normal for breastfed babies, i just felt hopeless. In the end i would give her some coloxyl which would get her to go within a day or two and she would be happy again. She definately wasn't constipated but she obviously was just using everything i was feeding her but for some reason it still gave her pain. I also tried the brown sugar and water trick but it did nothing. She became a once or twice a dayer when she started solids at 5 1/2mths. Good luck i hope she goes soon

Yeah, I think it's from around this age that they can start going fairly long periods between poos.
Still geting plenty of wet nappies? Are teh poos still runny when she does go? If so, she's not constipated.
If she seems really uncomfortable you can try giving her some cool, boiled water (no sugar), but it may not really be necessary. She's probably just getting used to her system doing different things - poor dear.
If you think it might be the medication doing something, could you try stopping it for a day or so and seeing if it makes a difference?

Yeah, she is having loads of wet nappies. Plenty!
And she actually had a poo this morning which is really good and it looks the way that it normally does.
I don't really want to stop the medication as her reflux is really bad - it's helping her with that.
