So I've been looking at the kmart toy catalogue (exciting!!) and got me thinking as to whether DS will be ready for his first bike by xmas, he'll be 3.
How old was your child when they got their first bike?
Thanks!

DS got his trike when he was 18 months or so.
He just got his first bike this morning and he is 3.5 years. We got a 12 inch bike that coverts between a balance bike and a pedal bike (the pedals and chain is detachable). DS is tall for his age and he only just reaches the ground on tippy toes making me think that any younger would have been a bit too young. Unless you can get a smaller bike than that.
Ds got his first trike for his first Birthday and first proper bike with training wheels at about 2 and a half. He picked it up really quickly and now rides ahead of me no problem. He'll have the training wheels on for a while yet though.
He loves loves loves riding.
Spring x
Have you seen the balance bikes? (Also known as run bikes) DS has one, and he LOVES it! We gave it to him for his 3rd birthday :)
My target had Dora balance bikes for $18 :o
Mine were all approx 2 - 3. Tank will be alot older
We got DS's first bike for his 3rd birthday. A little bmx style bike with training wheels, it also had one of the those pole handle thingys like you can get with the toddler ones. It was the perfect age for DS, he was soooo excited and picked up the whole peddle and break function really quickly.
We got DS a Smart Trike for his first christmas. He was about 9 months old.
He's going to be just over 2.5 this christmas & we are getting him his first bike. He has 2 that were given to him & hasn't learnt how to pedal just yet.
I'm getting him the Toy Story one from Kmart I think :)
Girls got 1st bikes for their 2nd birthdays :)
A balance bike or run bike is the best way to start them and getting them to develop balance - DD1 started on hers at 2 and rode her first 2-wheeler with no training wheels the day before her 4th birthday.
DS got his first bike from santa last year so he was just over 3. He had been riding a bike before then that was at my IL's house and has no problems (with training wheels). He actually can ride quite fast now.
Thanks for the replies everyone, I think I'll look into the balance bikes.
Clover, I saw the toy story one too, that's what got me thinking cause it's so cute!
