I went to the Dr this week for Motilium and DD's reflux....
He asked why I don't give her an AR formula - told him I want to breastfeed :rolleyes:........he then tells me that the nutritional benefit of breastmilk is no longer after 10 months.....
Is that true?

I know somewhere on here there is the statistics of what long term breastfeeding gives your baby in terms of nutrition hopefully someone more useful comes along and can point you in the right direction but just couldn't resist pointing out how wrong that is!!
Even if this was true (and i don't think it is!), why would you buy a product and all the other items needed (bottles, teats etc) when you have 2 perfectly good breasts producing what your bub needs? And for no cost!
Even the formula companies are now using the benefits of long term breastfeeding to advertise their products!
I am a novice when it comes to breastfeeding, but if a Dr was to tell me that, I would tell him he is full of crock.
I am planing on BF DD till 12months if possible due to the benifits for her and me. Plus, why switch to formula when it is essentially an artificial way of feeding a baby that has been breastfeed most of its life?

absolutely not - there is a reason WHO recommends breastfeeding for the first 2 yrs of a child's life. Check out the ABA website that will have lot's of statistics about all the benefits.
The dr might be a great general dr but obviously has not done any study of breastfeeding practices.

Thanks guys......what a tw4t.....I need to find a good GP - mind you, this was the same muppet that wanted to send DD for an ultrasound to "see" her reflux (seriously, he wanted me to starve her, then feed her so that they could continually monitor her until she threw up :rolleyes: )
AND the same guy that told me to fix her reflux by putting her on an AR formula.....*sigh* it really is hard to find a good GP
