Camping - what do I need?

Hi everyone, looking for your best tips here!

As soon as DD starts walking and the weather warms up a bit, I want to go camping. She's 15 months old.

We have a large tent, going to replace our crummy air mattress with proper camp beds and we have a portable hot plate thingy that runs on little cans of gas. We have a rechargable lantern and the good old esky. We are basic campers, bolting to the supermarket daily to get bbq stuff for dinners, etc.

What makes your life easier when camping with little ones?

* Bring lots of changes of clothes! Kids can get very wet and dirty when camping.
* We use our big clear storage tub as a bath for the kids, it's heaps easier than trying to shower them in the shower cubicles.
* Use a tarp for your tent's front entrance, it helps keep the dirt out of your tent.
* Bring a broom or dustpan and brush to clean dirt out of your tent.

There's probably heaps more, but that's all I can think of right now :D

Thanks Trish! Love the tub suggestion, that's an awesome idea :) . I just bought a new tarp the other day too, so it will definitely come in handy!

Oh a head lamp thingy they make things easier when changing nappies in low light
ill think of some more(I have random ideas when Im up in the middle of the night for bottles :lol: ) and come back tomorrow

I LOVE camping, we have been camping since i was little it is so much fun, i can't wait until we take our girls one day.

If you want warm water for a shower without having to boil a billy you can buy those camp showers that you hang in a tree, you leave it in the sun and it warms up itself.

If you can get a cheap little pop up tent they are good to have as a 'play area' JIC it rains, then your LO has a place all of her own to keep her toys and books.

Hmmm i'm sure there are plenty of handy hints my parents used...

if you forget something when camping improvise ;)

What others have suggested are fine for basic camping..

Chairs and comfy ones are always good.
If you want to avoid running into town for food all the time.. Freeze the meat before you go and pack it well with ice. It should last a good few days slowly defrosting

We just used a fridge for the first time while camping and we even cryovaced (sp) our meat. Fridge was great but took up heaps of room in the car. We even had to take one of the seats out..
