Snappies, do they wreck cloth nappies?

Just wondering if those using cloth and snappies find that they pull the fabric? I bought a pack to use and was trying them out on my bamboo prefolds and quickly found that they pulled the stiches. The snappie also caught the threads of the towel that I have draped over the changing table. If you don't find they pull what fabric are your cloth nappies and do you think that using a large safety pin would keep a snug fit on bubs bottom just as good as a snappie? I'm not keen to use them if they will pull the stiches all the time and leave my prefolds looking like they have been attacked by a wild animal lol

sorry hun, but i havnt had any 'wild animal' (:rofl:) tears in Harper's cloth nappies from the snappies, although i must admit i was pretty useless in the beginning anyway :doh: and am pretty sure i wouldve then :shakehead:

So there are no wild animals over in Perth attacking babies nappies then?? what fabric are your nappies? do you think the old safety pin would do the job instead of a snappy? Also are all snappies the same size? The ones I got don't even look like they will work on a newborn prefold... ahhh I'm so lame! I have no clue :redface:

They won't wreck anything grippy, like terry towelling. They can wear down fleece. They will not hold on flannelette, and can definitely rip knit fabrics.

I have a combo of snappis and nappy pins that we will be using. Also planning to make some snappi-able prefolds.

I've only ever used snappi's on terry, which has been fine, so not sure on that one.
I always have safety pins on hand anyway. It can be scary using pins, but you get the hang of it :)

yes i do have the pins, but havent used them yet :rolleyes: (actually havent needed too, im still on my first two pairs of snappies) and i use the terry towelling nappies. ive started cutting corners of late though, and am pretty ok in saying that i'm using disposables more often. guilt over the environment, but more special time with Harper and not my washing machine ;)

oh, and we do have wild animals (not nappy tearing ones!) here in Perth, but they only come out when the high heels and wine is flowing :lol: :dance: ive still got 5 months out of nine to catch up on you know ;)

Alright after reading your replies I got them out again and my bamboo prefolds and thought I must be doing something wrong. I thought maybe they were being weird casue the nappy wasn't actually being put onto a baby, so I got out a teddy bear :lol: and put the nappy on it and fastened it with the snappy, and surprise surprise it works... yes I'm so lame, told you I didn't have a clue lol :shakehead: anyway I tried it out on all the different fabrics I have for nappies and they do seem to be fine. I must have just caught the claw bits on the change mat cover and it pulled a thread but if I'm a bit more careful it should be fine by the looks of it. Thanks girls.

We have a gorgeous knitted teddy who looks fab in his BBH petite! DH refuses to practice on dolls, so it has to be teddies. (I make him practice so that I can loosely disguise an excuse to play with my fluff collection)
