ivf question
Hi all,
I just wanted to say hello. This is the first time I have ever been on one of these sites so I'm still trying to understand all the abbreviations! I'll give you a quick run down on my history: diagnosed with severe endo a year and a half ago. Had a lap and hysteroscopy which removed all the endo (temporarily anyway) and the op revealed I had normal fallopian tubes and uterus. Tried naturally to concieve for a year after that with no luck and just had my first I.U.I this month. I have just started my period so the I.U.I obviously didn't work. I will be starting my first stimulated cycle of I.V.F in the next month. Does anyone know anyone who was successful with their first i.v.f cycle?

Hi Marie502,
I was successful on my first IVF (ICSI) cycle, despite being 38 and having a sub-normal ovarian reserve according to my AMH test results. I'm currently 11 and a half weeks pregnant. I know quite a few other girls on here fell PG on the first go, too, although obviously others need to go through several cycles before they get that BFP (a positive pregnancy test).
I hope this helps, and good luck!

Hi Marie,
My first ivf worked a few years ago and DS is now 2. Having a lot more trouble this time around though! Also, Lisa (in the other thread) just got a BFP from her first go. Good luck!

Thank you so much ladies. I feel like there's hope now. I know I cant get my hopes up too much but the fact that people out there do concieve on their first ivf cycle is something that i will keep in mind over the next month. Does anyone have any hints on how they stayed relaxed through the cycle? My DH and I are under quite a bit of stress at the moment due to a number of factors and have been told that we need to do i.v.f sooner rather than later. (Otherwise i would hold off on trying for a few months). Does anyone have any stress relieving tips?

By the way - Congratulations Kitkat!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you. I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes really smoothly for you. You've been through enough with the concieving part of it, so hopefully the pregnancy will be a breeze and at the end you will have a beautiful little bub to show for it.

Hi Marie502, I was also successful on my first IVF ICSI attempt. Before I did the cycle I did loads of research on how to increase our chances of success. Here is what I found.
The healthier the eggs and sperm the better your chance of conception, having higher grade embryos and a successful pregnancy. So for at least 3 months prior to the egg pick up and conception my husband gave up smoking, drinking and was taking Menevit (a vitamin supplement designed specifically to increase the health of sperm). The life cycle of a sperm is 3 months. For me I just tried to stay as healthy as possible, lots of fresh healthy food and a bit of exercise here and there.
Many studies are showing that acupuncture also increases your chances with IVF. So I found an acupuncturist who specialised in IVF & fertility and had one session the day of the transfer and one session the day after the transfer. The timing with this is important apparently.
I found it helpful to have something else to focus on during the cycle and the 'two week wait'. This kept my sanity and stress levels in check. Are you able to have a weekly massage (or get hubby to give you one) or something like that. If you prefer a beauty treatment then be really vigilant to the products they use on you, only use natural and chemical free products. Music is an excellent stress reliever so put on whatever you like to listen to and bop along. Wish you the best of luck!!:crossfingers:

Thanks, Marie. As for relaxation, people here on BB recommended acupuncture, and they were right: it was great. Some studies have also shown, by the way, better IVF success rates in patients who did acupuncture immediately before and after egg pick-up, as I did.
