OPK questions
I had a tiny bit of EWCM this morning, so I decided to do my first ever OPK (tricky since I'm at work) & it's got a faint line. Definately a line but much fainter than the control line. I think that would mean that I will O soon but not right now? Is that right? It seems too early since I don't expect to O until Sunday. Does any one know how long it takes to O once a faint line appears?
Also, does any know if PCOS effects the reliability of OPKs?
ETA: I am pretty sure I am ovulating each month as I take Metformin & my cycles have regulated to around 36-39 days although I have had one 33 day cycle.
TIA

Hey Rowellen, i think with OPK's a line can appear at anytime (regardless if you are about to O) but its only when the line is the same colour as the control line (or darker) that indicates O is iminent (usually 12-24 hrs of the positive OPK).
Now, my specialist told me that having PCOS (which i have) makes using OPK's very hard as the hormone imbalance with PCOS can create either false positives or negatives depending on the woman  so yeah, in short, PCOS can affect the realiabilty of OPK's

Hi there. I am currently using OPK tests (first month of trying) and used them last pregnancy (got pregnant that first month of trying). I kept a diary of my opk tests results last time and seriously dont go off a faded line. Some days the line was 1/2 as dark as the control one and the next it was barely visible. I knew there was a result when there was a really good second line (tho saying that I went and got a clearblue digital to confirm the results) just keep testing. You will know when you have a second good line. Oh what tests are you using. I use cheap internet cheapies. The test line on those doesnt have to be as dark (from experience) but nearly as dark if thta makes any sense.
Goodluck!!!:):)

Rowellen, how'd you go with the OPK's??
-
Yeah how are you going there??? I am on D15 today and getting bored with the negative results (maybe I am a testing freak)....come on positive results. I keep thinking it must be coming up cos I have a cramp or etc but I am probably just imagining it!!!

I would personally get digital.. if you are second guessing.. its much less stress and easier to read!
Good luck!

Still getting faint lines. My CM is starting to change to "wet" with little bits of EWCM so I think I will O soon. I was expecting around Sunday based on previous cycles but it might be a bit later as I've been sick. I'm hoping to see a darker line in the next few days though :crossfingers:
didispunk - I didn't know you could get digital OPKs. What brand do you get.
Thanks everyone for your help.

Have you tried digital? They are much easier to read.. I used them morning and night before I would 0... very easy to read.

Yeah you can get digitals, I'm trying to think of the brand.....brain freeze here. Nope, clearblue is the brand I think. They are expensive. I used them only once to know what a positive on my cheapo strips looked like and never needed them again. What day cycle are you on? I'm on D15 and expecting a positive on OPK around D19 with ovulation around D20 or so if I am right. No EWCM yet, though have the crampy feelings both sides today, not mega ones but still there and I checked cervix (TMI) it is really soft, though hasnt changed position yet, is mega soft unlike 3 days ago. YAY!!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Well I *think* I have got a +ve today. The line is not quite as dark as the control line but it is much darker than they have been over the last 10 days. I guess I'm one of those women that get faint lines all the time. It's also a little later than expected but I have been sick this cycle so that may have delayed it. I had EWCM from Mon to Wed but not today. So don't know what's going on there. Anyway, DH better be up to the job tonight!
