How do you convince the doctor... (just a couple of Qs)

1. ...that you know when you ovulated? For example - If I am pg this cycle, and they go off my LMP, the due date is 19/3 but if I go off what FF says is my O date, it's 24/3 - it's not a huge difference, but still...
2. ...that you don't want to wait to go on Clomid, understand the risk of multiples is higher on it, and still want to do it? If I'm not pregnant, I don't want to have to wait six months to get some help. He thinks that because we conceived Ianto without help, we can do it again - we know we got lucky with him, and are uncertain we can do it again.
3. ...that you're a hell of a lot smarter than he is about this stuff because you're on this awesome forum? ;)

Take your charting calendar! Print it out, and have your temps there etc.
Show all the calendars including successful ones ... and ones that theoretically should have been successful!

I hear a lot of people complaining once they are UTD that no Dr listens to them re: LMP vs O date... I read somewhere that one lady just ended up lying about her LMP date so it was exactly 14 days before her actual O date, because her Dr wouldn't listen to her!!

He's an OB not a GP - does that make a difference? He strongly suggested it would be his call if/when I go on it, so I assumed he was the one who'd prescribe it... Or maybe I'm wrong :redface:

I had something similar when I was pg with Ianto - I had no idea of my LMP and we were going off the dating scan instead. When the middie was starting my paperwork, she asked when AF had last come - I said something along the lines of "I don't know, maybe about three months ago?" so she went to write down that I was about three months pg :rolleyes: If she'd asked me what my due date was, she wouldn't have had to start a whole new form - I was even holding the ultrasound films in my hand and had told her about five times that I'd had a dating scan... Silly lady!

When is your appt?

Not for a while Elocin, I think it's actually next month but that's just to get blood test results for a test I'm yet to do and have no idea what it's for :lol: I just want to be prepared, because he's such a thick-skulled idiot ;)

IKWYM!!!!!!!!!! Last time they were a PITA so this time I'm lying about my LMP.

When I went to the Dr he wouldn't do my hospital referral until after a BT because I only 'might' be pregnant. Never mind I did 10 hpt's over a couple of wks, don't have AF and have morning sickness!! So then he gets the results back with HCG of 62000 and goes 'Ok, so it looks like you are pregnant'. Gee thanks, I wasn't sure!! Only a BT can tell, I know nothing!

Actually, if this next appointment doesn't go well, I'm changing hospitals. If I'm preg this cycle, I'm doing the same to avoid him. One more chance, Dr Moron! One. More. Chance. *evil eyes*

Sorry he's being a moron. Just be matter of fact and tell him (if you're pg) that the due date you'll be using is the later one. Make him make a note of it in your file, even if he doesn't agree. A few days can make all the difference at the other end in terms of induction pressure. If you're not pg (and I :crossfingers: you are) ask for clomid. Keep asking.

Not sure how you tell a doc that you're smarter than he is and have it go down well. Good luck trying though :lol:

I guess what I'm saying is, just be confident. You are the expert on your body, despite his training and quals. And one more chance sounds like a good deal to me. If he's going to give you grief over clomid and/or your due date then that could be the tip of the iceberg for how other issues will be handled further into a pregnancy.

Hi Teni :) I haven't seen you around for ages so I was excited to see your name!

My Ob was also a bit strange about the whole due date thing and I ended up reminding him quite a few times about our agreed due date! When we did agree, I got him to write it on my antenatal card and that was easier because he referred back to that date at all of my appointments. However, I was the opposite and actually wanted him to go off the dating scan as I didn't know when I had my period since I had a miscarriage the cycle before. It turns out that when I did have my baby my placenta was pretty old looking and "gritty" and would apparently have only lasted a few days longer so going off the first day of when the bleeding began during my mc would have been a better EDD than my dating scan.

I hope that makes sense! Basically what I am saying is just stick to your guns and if he refuses to agree with you, I would just tell him at every opportunity that while you respect his right to believe your EDD is X date, you hope he respects your right to know that your EDD is X date and then agree to disagree :)

If your doc won't listen to reasonable things like "I know when I O'd" then it really might be time to find another.
It's really not worth a murder rap - I agree with PZ. If you need help then there are specialists for that

The solution? Find a better Ob. Sorry, but if he won't give you the credit you deserve for knowing your body, he doesn't deserve you as a patient.

FWIW, it seems so many in the medical profession are "stuck" on using the LMP to predict the EDD. It's bollocks for so many reasons. I conceived through IVF, which meant I was certain when I'd O'd, but I was still asked when my last LMP was - which, if used to predict my EDD, would have made me due 5 days earlier :rolleyes: When I told the MW that I "didn't know" when my LMP was, she didn't know what to write on the form, as if I didn't fit into the box.

My FS was always surprised when I told him when I expected to ovulate and from which ovary - but I'd been TTC for so long that I knew my body better than he did. There's some things that Obs and FSs cannot do, and that is know your body the way you do.
