Just want it over and done with *vent*

Got the scan done yesterday, and there does appear to be some retained product - but I'm not getting a D&C. Apparently they want to continue this 'wait and see' approach. I'm on two different antibiotics, so I guess they think its safe enough to let my body continue to do it naturally.

But its now getting 7 weeks. I'm sick of it. I just want to be able to get it over and done with, so I can move on. I feel like I'm stuck in limbo.

I was told to come back if the pain or bleeding got worse, so I rang the hospital this morning because the pain is getting quite bad. They asked if I had taken any painkillers, but I haven't because I wanted to monitor the pain levels, I thought that was what I was supposed to be doing. So they said to just said to take some, they won't do a D&C on the weekend unless its an emergency, and if I came in they'd only give me pain relief and send me home.

I've had enough of doing it naturally, I want it over with, I can't get out of the place I'm in while I still have the physical problems :cry:

It's enough, already, huh? Are they at least able to book the d&c for you so you have an end date to all this?

No Lara, I'm getting the feeling they won't do a D&C unless it becomes an emergency. I suppose the hands off/natural care is good, I'm just over it though :rolleyes:

sorry you're going through this, i'm sure you just want to put all the discomfort behind you, so that you can grieve the pregnancy.

Berenice I too am very sorry you are going through this :hug: Maybe make an appointment to see your GP this coming week and get them to organise someone to do a D&C for you. 7 weeks is a long time for you to still be bleeding and having pain. That is just not fair on you hun :hug:
I hope you get someone to listen to you sooner rather than later. Maybe you could try another hospital. I know that isn't an ideal way but if you aren't getting the treatment and answers you need right now then that might be an option for you :hug:

Had a follow up scan at the hospital today, still a bit of retained product, only a small amount. The doctor couldn't seem to decide what to do, so I chipped in and said I just wanted the D&C, I had researched it, and emotionally I just can't get past it while I'm still bleeding. So I'm booked in for this Friday...

I'm nervous, I've never had surgery before, never been under a general anaesthetic. I'm supposed to be keeping my friend company while her son is in the chidlrens hospital this weekend, and I called her and said I wouldn't be there Friday because of the D&C, but I'd be there Saturday, and she just laughed and said 'No you won't!' So now I'm scared...

How can you remember it if you were sedated? I don't wanna be aware of what they're doing!

So sorry you are going through this. I know where you are coming from as i am going through something similar at the moment (4 weeks of bleeding on and off and counting) and had a similar experience last year (3mths of bleeding post miscarriage.) I too am totally over the whole thing and feel like I can't move on until it's over. I made the choice to 'go natural' this time because I had 3 d & c's last year (in relation to a rare complication of that miscarriage which caused persistent 'retained products'- awful expression, sorry) and didn't want to have any more procedures done so soon. But I wanted to give you some reassurance. I didn't find the d & c's to be a bad experience in themselves. I had sympathetic doctors and nursing staff. I remember nothing from the time i was sedated to the time i woke up in recovery, and i needed no pain killers afterwards. You will be ok. oh, and in my experience i was ok the next day so if you feel as good as i did you can probably go keep your friend company if you want to. But if you are tired or whatever and want to rest then be kind to yourself.

My D&C 2 years ago was my first experience with GA and all went well. I was actually on a bit of a high after waking up and it wasn't pleasant when I came down but there were no physical issues. I continued to bleed for a couple weeks afterwards, but that's normal and it wasn't any more than what I had been bleeding before the D&C. The next day I was physically fine....emotionally is another story, but it was good to have the physical part over and done with, iykwim. I hope it goes smoothly for you so that you can get on with your emotional healing.

I'm so sorry you're going through this, but glad you are booked in on Friday :hug: I too, had never had surgery or a GA when I went in for my D&C, and I was freaking out badly, plus all the emotional pain of losing our baby. I told the anaesitist (spg?) how freaked out I was and he was great, as were all the staff. I have no recollection whatsoever of the procedure, just going to sleep and waking in recovery, and very little to no pain at all. Bleeding was very minimal too, and I didn't have any painkillers, home that afternoon. As Hannah said, physically I was fine by the next day, emotional healing is a continual process.

That's not to discount that for some it obviously doesn't go as smoothly, just wanted to tell you another positive (for want of a better word) experience.

Perhaps your friend meant emotionally she didn't expect you to be there the next day? Her way of saying it's okay for you to give yourself some time?

i am glad you are booked in for Friday too... it is better to be over and done with so you can move on. Unfortuntly they didnt do that for me, they sent me home and 3 weeks later (after being in and out of doctors) I hemorraged nearly 4 litrs and had to be admitted for over a week.

This was due to retianed placenta... there should be a rule about how long they leave it go natural... and 7 weeks is well and truely enough.

The D & C I was out for... there is absolutly nothing to worry about. No pain afterwards. You will be fine.

i've had 2 D/C one for retained placenta and one for a m/c at 10weeks I was under a light sedation I remember being in the holding room and thats it

I was a bit sore afterwards just sought of uncomfortable down below, very little bleeding afterwards...
