Stewing Apples - HELP
Argh, the kids are in child care tomorrow and we have to supply a piece of fruit per child for their morning tea...
DH was sent to the shop to buy two pieces of fruit. He came back with apples . I'm not sure if every other centre is the same, but for babies and toddlers there is a 'no apple' policy -due to choking hazard.
Soooo, I have no opportunity to buy more fruit as we have to take the kids to cc at the butt crack of dawn tomorrow.
I thought stewing the apples would soften them, which is fine for cc. But how?
TIA!

To stew apples I just peel and core and chop them up, then stick them in a pot on the stove (depending on how juicy they are I might add a bit of water, just to stop them sticking to the bottom) and cook them until they are soft.
Would you still need them in chunky pieces for them to be able to hold? Maybe just slice them up then steam them (like you would vegetables) until they are soft?

I do the same as Storm, only I slice rather than chop them up.

Great thanks ladies :-)
I'll slice them so they can be held easily.

raw apple puree
2 ripe apples
30ml apple or orange juice
Peel, core and chop apples
Puree with apple or orange juice.
stewed apples
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
This is for 500g fruit
remove skin, core and sees and roughly chop
put into a saucepan with sugar and water; cover and stew until the fruit is tender.
Mash or puree or slice.
From memory my mum always added a clove? kids might not like that though.
