DD's eczema is spreading and while I am using all the preventative measures, I'm unsure what to actually use to treat the actual flare up. I'm not going to use cortisone, and my organic ones require a minimum age of 2yrs.
Know of any natural, baby safe ointments or remedies?
Has anyone tried SerenaSkin?
Whilst I haven't used that product, I can tell you what we do use and what seems to work for us. We use Grahams Bath Oil in his bath water. I then pop some plain olive oil all over him before I take him out of the bath. I then use the Grahams Calendulis cream and / or Moogoo MSM cream after I have towel-dried him. If the eczema is going crazy then we resort to hydrocortisol cream on top of the previous two, but applied 1 hour later - in small doses it is fine and should just be used until it is under control. This rarely happens as a result of our maintenance regime, though. I hope this helps - know how stressful it is.
Our preventative routine is to moisturize up to 6 times a day, we've used a few and found Aveeno for eczema, or Dermaveen moisturiser to be the most effective, plus the dermaveen oat wash/oil in the bath water. Sometimes just to moisturise is not enough and flare ups occur and sometimes there is not choice but to use a hydrocortisone to help the skin retain its moisture, sometimes there is nothing we can do and it gets bad and requires a cortiosteriod cream as well on patches. As far as I am concerned, better to treat your child with it, then have them in pain and suffering. Whatever moisturiser you pick, get one that doesnt contain minerals, although they help with soft skin to begin with, in the long run it actually dries it out.
