Just wondering if anyone knows if side sleeping is safe for a newborn. I know you are supposed to put them to sleep on their backs to reduce the risk of SIDS and I do but Paige has discovered how to wriggle herself onto her side and won't stay on her back unless she's fallen asleep in her car seat.
Ok well.....SIDS people say on their backs. Lucy has NEVER wanted to:( I used to sit up while she was asleep worried as she was on her side something might happen. Now she's able to roll and sit etc I dont worry as much, because if she gets on her face etc she can get back up.

I always had DS on his side (I know not recomended by SIDS), and he slept better that way.. If he did manage to roll, he always seemed to roll to his back anyhow..
I think the SIDS recommendation used to be to sleep them on their side anyway, before it changed to on their back.
If you're worried about her rolling onto her tummy though, can you prop her up with a rolled up terry nappy or small towel? Or you can get sleep positioners (if she is happy on her side though I'd still leave her like that).
I slept my son on his side from a couple of days old. He was wrapped and sleeping with us so I was aware if he rolled onto his tummy- not that he ever did. I sort of put him half way between his side and back so he couldn't have rolled onto his tummy as his arm was in the way. If he moved he rolled backwards onto his back.
Dd1 was a chucky baby and then went into a brace, so she always slept on her side. I figured I it was safer if she threw up in her sleep for her to be on her side instead of her back, especially in the brace when it was harder for her to roll to her side on her own.
Whats a brace?:
I used to prop a rolled up towel under both DSs sides, so he could not fall... He slept so much better on his side... He was refluxy and I think it helped him... xo
Thanks guys :) She doesn't seem to roll all the way over on to her tummy (her arms get in the way) but I will take your suggestions of a towel to prop her up so she can stay on her side and I won't worry so much about her. I don't wrap her as she does not like it and just kicks and wriggles free (DS was the same).
