Poor FSH responder -> what would you do, 1 or 2 transfer?

I've had three stim cycle IVFS and 1 FET - my first IVF was a successful pregnancy (21 month old toddler now), my second stim cycle was a chemical pregnancy, and my 3rd stim was cancelled due to no fertilisation (ICSI was used). the FET was unsuccessful.

I'm having my scan for this 4th IVF attempt this week - and my doctor has given me the option of having two transferred. I am tempted, as my history tells me they will be lucky to get two eggs at collection. However, 2 out of my 3 IVFs have been "successful" even though the second was only a second pregnancy - which might mean my uterus is usually pretty good for implantations.

I'm tempted to have 2 put in anyway, to increase my chances as I'm likely to have to do another stim cycle if unsuccessful and I'm 38 with a history of early menopause in my family.

But I'm also undecided as IF I get pregnant with twins, the idea of being in a small country town (where we will be moving next year for my husband's work) without family is rather daunting!

Just curious what other people's thoughts are on this ? Thanks ...

I would put in two - but I am biased based on my own experience. I was a poor responder - never had 2 embryos when I cycled with my own eggs but had I, the 2 would have gone in. The odds of them both being healthy at 40+ years of age was slim to none and being 38 and facing the possibility of early menopause means time is of the essence. Also, assuming you have 2 embryos, they really don't know which one is the "better" one. They do grade them, but the grading doesn't necessarily guarantee that one embryo is better than the other in the long run.

Of course, if you put in 2 you have to be willing to have 2 - so I guess I would say, if you are strongly opposed to twins, then don't put in 2 but if it is something you could accept, then I'd transfer 2. If you have any other issues that may be of concern in terms of carry twins, I'd discuss this with the doctor as this would also impact my decision. This probably wasn't all that helpful...sorry.

Thanks for your thoughts buliej, I must admit I'm thinking along those lines too. Now to convince my hubbie ... But I guess I first need to wait if I even have two to put in!!! Scan is on Friday but last time the two they got didn't fertilise with ICSI so I'm :crossfingers: things will go ahead this time.

.. going ahead tomorrow to transfer 2 embies from our only 2 eggs recovered .. :crossfingers: !!
