why does she do this?

Lady P and I have been enjoying our breastfeeding journey for five months now :clap::clap: (woohoo go you good thing)
but the last two weeks have been not so much fun.

She is "biting" (no teeth but hard gums) me and pulling away with my nipple still in her mouth. It hurts!!!

I take her off thinking she is full and playing but she gets upset because she hasnt finished
I try feeding her in private so she isnt distracted - doesnt help
I make sure she is hungry before I feed - doesnt help

I hear her gulping so I know there is milk there so its not a frustration thing, or is it?

Any ideas cause I am starting to not like the breastfeeding at the moment :shakehead:

I am interested to hear why too. My bub is 4 months old and is doing the same thing. Hope it is only a short term thing!

It is temporary - Mr I was doing that and has stopped (good thing too, he's got 6 teeth). I don't think I did much to make him stop, just said no & detached him for 30 secs.

Jacks did this too (and occasionally still does, and he has two teeth!) and I detached him and told him a firm "NO, NAUGHTY". If he wanted it back i gave it back after a minute or so, otherwise I'd put it away. Whatever you do, don't yell, shreik etc because they little terrors just think it's funny! Also, watch for sighs that she's about to do it... and just as she's about to, take her off.
I put it down to teeth movement and the fact that there is probably no nicer feeling than having your mummy's warm squishy nipple to clench down on when they're achey ^^;
I hope she stops soon xx

Missy has been doing this too. I discovered that she has wind and needs to sit up for a bit to burp.
She stops once we've done a good burp!

I had the same thing with Robert. I think he's over it now... not sure what it was. I was actually battling to get him to take my breast - I could hear his tummy grumbling so I knew he was hungry but he wouldn't latch on. I basically had to force him to take it and once he did he fed for ages. Go figure?!

Oh dear.... I really hope I haven't jinxed myself and he goes back to that again!

It's not a lot of fun is it! Luckily as the others have said, it is a temporary thing. In the meantime there are some things you can try. Have a look at this article for some ideas - Australian Breastfeeding Association - Biting and Breastfeeding. I hope it stops soon for you :hug:
