Can they find out whats wrong if i have a D&C?

Twice in a row, after 6 good pregnancies, I have lost my babies at 18 wks, and have found that they both passed at around 14-15 wks... It just seems so strange that the EXACT thing would happen twice, at such a late stage. :crying:

If I have a D&C can they still find out what happened, or should I push to wait if things happen themselves? They have siad that since bub passed a little while ago, we shouldn't wait in case of infection though....

But I need to know... I am having no more, I just cant stand this, and Adam was booked for a vasctomy referal soon anyway, but I need to know why this has happened to my babies....

I thought it was routine to do testing on the baby etc when they do a d&c. I know for mine I got a report back a few weeks later detailing if there were or werent any genetic issues and so on.

Jodi it is probably too late for them to tell if your sweet baby had a chromosomal disorder if she/he passed about 4 weeks ago. :hug:

I lost 3 babies in the second trimester after having 4 healthy pregnancies also & I understand your questions and shock. It is possible & probable (IMO) that you have some type of clotting disorder. Your Dr will test you for a barrage of things - sadly & confusingly sometimes we have conditions that haven't yet been given a name or a test.

I was able to have Imogen after using heparin and steroids due to a clotting disorder after saying goodbye 6 times (3 of those Angels were in the 2nd tri).

To me it is not a coincidence that your babies all flew away at roughly the same time. If you need help or support with uncovering some answers I am here. :hug:

I never heard anything back after Seven... just a follow up app and the doc said "just one of those things"....
I'll ask again at the hossy today...

If the baby's tissue is not fresh enough chromosomal analysis isn't possible. It will depend on that Jodi. I am thinking of you gorgeous. :hug:

When I had an 8 week loss they tested and told me no reason was found.

As said allready possibly a clotting disorder.

Is it really dangerous to wait and see bub will come naturally??

I know it might sound so silly to some, but I want to see my baby.... however he/she is.. I know it could be traumatic, but the scan last night showed such a pretty bubba.... god I wish the tears would stop

I replied on your other thread about your loss. I am not sure about waiting and having the baby naturally but I know you can certainly ask?? Were you seeing a midwife, could you ring her? Also, there is no rush for it to happen right now, so take your time and perhaps you will end up with a DC but dont feel time pressured into it first thing this morning. Just make sure you are comforatble with the decisions and the things they are telling you, and ask questions even if it seems like it is annoying them, it's your body, your baby and of course you can see the baby and take that path as part of the grief process.

Jodie I am so sorry that this could possible happen again. There are a number of blood tests they can do on you now (there are about 16plus tests) and they could test bub and the placenta also. They should offer this to you without asking. Sounds like they are not going to but I think they should especially seeing as it has happened again.

Yes you can wait. I know people who have waited for 6-8weeks. If your wanting to do that and there is no sign of infection then there would be know reason to not wait. They usually just say to take your temperature daily or if you feel off to ensure it remains normal.

They took a lot of blood last night, something they didn't do the first time...

The first doc i saw said i could even wait for my 20 wk scan if I wanted too, but could get an emergency one this morning if I want, so I guess she saw no great rush, and would've been happy for me to wait a while?? I have the form for one today, but I really dont feel up to it... Ad is dropping the kids off to various places so we just have Harmony today... I want to see bubba again, but I dont want to go the hossy again... :(

You could ask about having a misoprostal induction if they are concerned about infection. Otherwise could give you antibiotics and keep an eye on your temp.

There is a risk of infection but as mentioned this can be simply monitored. If there is not a medical need for your baby to be born today then you take your time if that's what you feel you need. :hug:

PB, when I had Banjo I had an amnio (which didn't work while I was still carrying him but because I birthed him in the sac the Ob took it afterwards) She also offered to send him away for a autopsy and took some tissue from the placenta. I declined the autopsy. We did get results from the amnio... every thing was normal.

I would wait a while and see if you can birth bub yourself. The reason I say this is because you sound like you need to. I know of many women who have waited and avoided sugery, none of them contracted an infection. Don't put anything into your vagina and keep an eye on your health (eg temp or signs of illness).

When we learned Banjo had died I told them there was no way I was having a D&C and I am so glad I got to hold my little boy.

There are some herbs that may help your body start contracting... I can't think of them (Inanna??).

I am so sorry this has happened again and that you are having to make these decisions again.

Hi darling - I am so sorry for your loss. You may have seen my posts recently about losing my twins just last week. My OB said that anything after 12 weeks then they get you to deliver and not do a d&c. Reason he stated was they were too formed and it could cause you problems. I had the misoprostal induction which is some pills that get inserted in your vagina towards your cervix that make you dialate - you go through labour and its pretty intense. But given bubs is so small you don't have to dialate all the way and there is no pain from the delivery aspect of things.

There are a couple of things you might want to consider. If you leave this to 20 weeks then you'll get a birth certificate for your bubs. This goes on your delivery and not when the bubs passed. This could be very validating for you. The other thing is financial - you will get the baby bonus and access to other funds to help you financially if you wait until 20 weeks. I know that money is probably not even entering your thinking but if you look at it that you can use it to memorilise and commerate your bubs then it could make a difference and help you along with the grief process.

The best thing for me a week on is the memory of holding my babies. I am thankful every day that I got to spend time with them.

They said they wouldn't do a D&C due to bus size and position, so they have booked me in on Monday for an induction...

I really hope things start on their own....

I am feeling crampy, and I didn't get this with Seven, not this bad anyway.... I am having more blood loss too, which I didn't get at all last time....

If anyone knows what I can do to help avoid induction, and go naturally, I would love to hear please....

There are herbs & you can PM me for them. It sounds to me like things are beginning on their own. :hug: It's important to monitor your blood loss. Blood loss can be an issue with these labours. I myself hemhorraged after my sons silent birth. I retained the placenta & required surgery.

I am not sayign this to concern you - rather to prepare you for some things that can occur.
