Worried still about my 14.5month old babies development...

Hi everyone, I hope this is the right place to post this thread. I have a baby girl whos 14.5months old and she isnt walking,not pulling herself up and cant sit up from laying down. She can roll,bum shuffle and has tried to pull herself up but she couldnt do it. She had torticollis on her neck which has recently got treated...I have seen a paed physio who has given me exercises which ive been doing and im seeing a baby chiro once a month for her neck. I didnt walk till I was 18months old, I feel like I am going to be lugging around a very heavy baby for the rest of my life :( Shes a beautiful,placid girl which I love dearly but it makes me sad when I see other bubs doing alot more and its driving me insane everyone asking me if shes walking yet like theres something wrong with her...

If you are worried then take her to the MCHN or something for an assessment.

I wouldn't be too worried about her not walking yet though, neither of my older ones walked until they were 15.5 months, my nephew was about 19 months when he walked. I think its weird people think babies should be walking when they are a year old - my uncle is a terrible one for this, as soon as any baby turns 1, he's like 'oh so they are walking then'

Weird. Anyhoo, get her checked if you are worried, but she sounds ok to me?

:hug: it sounds like your doing all the right things, she may just be one of those bubs that walk a little later.
It's always hard to think of them doing it anytime soon but she may just up and surprise you, i always stressed DD1 would never crawl, she was 10mths before she did and i was so desperate for her to get moving.
She sat from 5mths and was such a PITA as she wouldn't reach for toys etc.... so set in her ways and stubborn!

GL, i don't think it's anything to worry about but maybe double check with the MCHN if your worried.

Don't stress! Your DD sounds very much like my DS was (oh, and I worried too!). He started bum shuffling at 12 months, but until then didn't move much at all. He could roll tummy to back, but didn't very often, and never really rolled back to tummy. He didn't start pulling himself to standing until well after 12 months. At his 12 month MCHN check up we were referrd to a paed physio. She gave us a few tips, but basically said he should be fine, he'll just do it in his own time. And what do you know, he did! By 16 months he was walking well on his own, and it didn't take him long to learn to walk once he started. He's now 18.5 months, and walking, running, climbing all over the place. One thing that really helped with getting him to walk was when we got one of those block trolleys - he loved walking behind it and pushing it around.

If you've already seen a physio and a chiro, there's probably not a lot more you can do at this stage I reckon. Just encourge her to walk when she's ready, with you holding her hands or her pushing something, and hopefully she'll be off in no time!

My DD didn't start walking until she was 26mths. I know it's frustrating but it will happen in time.

Well my dd still isnt walking and shes now 20.5 months...She is pulling herself up onto everything,walking with my hands or hand,climbing and has taken 1 step. I cant get into see a paedatrician as the one i got referred to had a car accident :( I feel like im the only one with a non walking toddler....

Try not to worry too much about her not walking. Is she meeting other development milestones? If she is meeting them in all other areas, then not walking isn't anything to worry about. On here there have been such a wide variety of experiences from the very early walkers to the very late ones and everything in between and ALL of them normal :hug:

My DD did not walk till 19 months, I was not that worried but was mighty frustrated. In the end I took her to see a podiatrist as I was a little concerned about angle of her feet when she walked holding my hand. Most people had told me to be patient or was because of the hip dysplasia and time in a harness. Turns out her feet were too turned out not due to hips but due to lack of room in womb. She now has small orthotics in her shoes and took to walking on her own properly a couple of weeks later. Sometimes I wish I had not listened to people saying was just her hips delaying - but maybe getting orthotics earlier would not have helped and 19 months was just her time - but will never know. I understand your frustration though and I think not walking till later than most is far harder than not crawling till late etc (DD late crawling too) because it excludes them far more if all there peers are already walking climbing etc and they have to hold hand or just sit there plus is much harder on you and your back if they demand to walk but need your support. Do her feet look normal, watch how kids of similar age walk, does anyone else comment on her leg angle? If so could be worth seeing a podiatrist our council has ones that specialise in children and got me an appointment really quick and was very cheap. If podiatrist had said no feet are all fine my plan was to give up and learn to be patient.

Thanks for understanding ladies, dd took 2 small steps yesterday unaided from the lounge whilst watching her favourite show. I dont think she even realised she did it. Got a phone call from the paedatrician so we are seeing her this wednesday...now Im worrying about what happens if something is wrong with dd :( Question for the ladies with late walkers, how do you handle mothers group when all the other kids are walking? Im finding it really hard....

I was lucky in that we had 2 late walkers in our group mine and another girl. But the could do realy fine moter control that the others couldnd do so every baby has a skill they are better at than others I think

DD was the only late walker in our group and am afraid I just found it hard no real advice on how to handle it. She was quite happy playing on her own and crawling about and one of the other bubs would crawl about just to copy her and chase each other which was nice. My biggest annoyance was other mums saying is better when they don't walk as run you ragged when they do, I know they think making feel better but is just annoying would rather them say yeah can see what a pain must be. Now she is walking I can honestly say have never once thought was better when she couldn't. MG is more fun now as all play together more although DD is still a bit wobbly.

After doing a few steps DD kept me waiting a good four weeks before trying much again!

Hope your paed appointment goes well and your DD ends the non walking misery soon.
