Burka - pants whats the difference??

These thoughts have been running through my mind for the last week.

I was shopping with my youngest last week and a lady in full Burka was standing close to us....tank stood infront of her..waved, smiled and then blew her a kiss. I smiled at her and from the twinkle in her eye I could tell the little gesture from my Romeo made her day.

I didnt realise until I recalled what had happened a moment later that she was actually in her full attire.

There is far to much finger pointing, glares, whispers directed at these woman....judgement being laid for something they themselves have and had no control over. The unknown....pftt stupid. I myself respect these woman. Respect them as they beleive in their faith and have no fear in displaying it in public...how many of us hide our true beliefes, even behind close doors.

Anyway my point of this thread is.

Turn of the century these was such a big who ha about woman wearing pants...and now we have the same with the borka. I understand they are slightly different as the borka is worn due to religious reasons...

BUT

They are clothing people!!!!! Im so sick of judgement on people due to what they are wearing!!! We're is the freedom of being an individual gone?? I just cant understand why people are so against the borka.

I think that some are against the full burka as it completely hides the identity of the individual, so you don't really know who is underneath... TBH it could be anyone....

I guess an example that may come to mind is that you can't wear a motorcycle helmet into a bank because it hides your identity, yet you can wear a burka.... not sure if anyone had tried to hold up a bank wearing one though well at least in Australia ;)

I don't know how it works for passports etc, how does one be identified when it is not within the bounds of their religion to reveal their face in public? I have no idea how this is dealt with.

I heard a very eloquent Muslim woman discussing this on the radio recently, in relation to the recent French legislation banning the burka. She said that at an airport she would merely ask for a female staff member, and show her face to her. She said that if she was asked to reveal her identity to enter somewhere but a female staff member was not available, she would merely leave rather than show her face to a man.
