How often do you use your steam mop?

DF bought me a Bissell steam mop last week (was supposed to be for my b'day which was in April, then mother's day...lol).

I've just done the whole house with it, but I said to DF I don't think I'll be using it every week, maybe only every 2nd week (to which his response was "for $200 odd dollars you had better be using it every week! :rolleyes: ). Our whole house is floorboards, so kitchen, lounge room, dining room, 3 bedrooms (although I only do ours and DD's) and a loooong hallway plus the bathroom & toilet. That's a lotta mopping...

I'm not sure which way I prefer though, the steam mop or a normal mop... the floors have come up great with the steam mop, but they have to be vacuumed really well to start with because unlike my stringy mop it doesn't pick up stuff off the floor. But then I don't like the thought of dragging a filthy string mop over the floor, especially at the end. I change the bucket of water halfway through the house because it gets so filthy. they take a lot less time to dry with the steam mop, where I started was dry by the time I finished where with the other mop DD and I usually go for a walk after to let them dry properly. I also like that I'm not putting chemicals all over the floor where DD is crawling, and picking up stuff to put in her mouth (gotta love 3 day old sultanas that I didn't see to pick up :rolleyes: ).

So, if you have one, do you use it every time you mop? I'd like to start cleaning the whole house weekly...in the past it has been every 10-14 days which is gross! Lol.

We have a bissell too :) It's all I use. I mop probably twice a week if I'm lucky at the moment.

I hardly use mine for reasons you stated, it doesn't pick things up and I don't think it really cleans that well tbh.

I use mine once a week. I do a complete clean of the house on Friday and Saturday. I always mop last so the floor is vacuumed and ready to clean.

I use the other mop for spills etc.

I don't vac if I am about to mop - it never picks up as much as sweeping it :)

We have a Bissell one too - I am still in love with it and use it probably once a week for the whole house, but love how easy it is to spot clean with it (like when Charlotte doesn't quite make it to the toilet, or I spill things in the kitchen...)

But then I mopped once a week with the old one - this just takes literally a quarter of the time, is cleaner and I think I have already paid for the mop in terms of not having to buy the sponge ends for my Vileda.

I mop kitchen/dining everynight/every second night and the rest of the mopable floors once or twice a week. I love my steam mop.... so quick and easy.

I am thinking about getting a steam mop, just need to find out how well they clean surfaces that are not smooth. Our kitchen has vinyl tiles that are non-slip so they have a gritt in them and they get filthy, I can't get the dirt out in certain places. Do you think a steam mop would be suitable for this??

In this house that we are renting, it has the same sort of tiles and they drive me insane! I actually always comment that whoever designed them must not have cleaned floors themselves :lol: Anyway, I love my steam mop and I find if I regularly mop with it (which is quick and easy) then it certainly keeps them pretty good. But I still find in certain areas a good old hard scrubbing brush is needed every now and then. Areas like in front of the fridge. But then I'm a bit pedantic with my floors and my friend and DH always ask why I'm scrubbing because they're not bad. Do you know someone with a steam mop that you could borrow to have a test run? I just lent mine to a friend for a trial that was successful :) Good luck with your choice.

jaffaz - our old tiles were like that. Our steam mop cleaned them just fine.
