Hmmmm, did that title question make sense?
Well I had my epu yesterday and out of our 16 eggs, 13 were fertilized. Considering my first cycle was canceled do to poor response, I'm pretty happy. We are doing PGD, so I expect a number to drop out or notmake it.
My question is,from the initial number of embryos fertilized, how many did you end up with on the day of transfer?
I really look forward to hearing your stories good and bad...

We had 13 eggs collected, 9 of those fertilised, one dropped off so we were left with 8. One was transferred (which resulted in my baby girl) and we have 7 frosty little snow babies!
We did "regular" IVF.

We collected 14, 13 fertilised - 7 ICSI and 6 regular. by day 3 we had 4 ISCI, which were frozen, and 5 regular. 3 of the 5 survived to day 5.
So for ICSI, >50% survival to day 3 (we went back for a FET this year, 1 didn't thaw, 2 didn't develop well enough, but 1 made it to day 5 and was transferred)
For regular, 50% survival rate to day 5.
There are so many variables though, it really depends. some people hardly lose any, some lose heaps. Good luck!

We had 15 at EPU we had 9 fertilized (5 IVF & 4 ICSI) Lost 1 between fertilization to ET leaving 8. TF 2x 3 day embies leaving 6. Ended up freezing 4x 5 day blasts.
All of my embies were fragmented to some degree apart from the 2 we TF.

We had 36 eggs collected, 24 fertilised (all ICSI), 12 made it to day 3, and 7 made it to blasty stage. One put back in, and 6 in the freezer.
I was told that the more eggs collected, the poorer their quality might be - certainly was the case for me with such a high drop-off rate. I think the ones we ended up with were all good quality though, luckily. Haven't needed to defrost any yet.

Mine varies.
Cycle 1 - 26 eggs, 20 mature, 15 fertilised, but only 4 made it to blast. I had OHSS so all were frozen, only two thawed out to be used.
Cycle 2 - 32 eggs, 30 mature, 20 fertilised, and this time 7 made it to blast. Again, OHSS and freeze all, and again only two thawed to be used.
Cycle 3 - 20 eggs collected, only 12 mature and only three fertilised. First time we got to transfer (day 3 this time, not blast), had one put back and two frozen. Have a 20 month old toddler to show for it.
It goes to show that the more eggs doesn't necessarily mean a good result and disastrous fertilisation rates don't mean the cycle is a complete bust.

something to consider when you are trying to compare is what day of transfer you are talking about. You will get more to transfer if you go for day 3 (but are less able to tell the quality and stamina of the embryo at this stage), but there isn't anyone who will tell you that just because a day 3 didn't make it to blast, doesn't mean it wouldn't have been OK in utero.
For me -
1st Cycle - 10 embryos, 5 fertilised, 5 made it do day 3 (two fairly crappy but the others were good with one resulting in my DD) - my clinic will only go to blast if you get 5 embryos and initially I only had 4 fertilise but one was just a bit slower initially.
2nd Cycle - 14 embyros, 9 fertilised, 5 made it to blast stage (all fantastic quality, had three transfers from this cycle - one I am now 14 weeks pregnant with)
My cousin only got two embryos from her 1st cycle with only one making it to blast which is now her DD - so like the others have said, not having quantity doesn't mean you won't be successful. I wish you the very best of luck on your IVF journey, 13 out of 16 sounds great! :)
I had 7 eggs collected, 2 fertilised, I had one put back at 3 days and we have one 3 days embie in the freezer.
We had :
21 Collected
18 fertilized
12 day 3
3 day 5 one of these transfered and is what we got our bfp on
2 day 5 left over for freezing
so total 14 on ice
2 day 5
12 day 3
Round 1: 8 or 9 (I forget) collected, maybe 5 fertilised, 3 got to day 5, 1 didn't thaw = 2 transfers
Round 2: 6 collected, 5 fertilised, 4 got to day 5, 1 didn't thaw = 3 transfers
Round 3: 7 collected, 7 fertilised, 7 still going (day 3)

In my first cycle (a coulpe of years ago, so numbers are a bit sketchy - sorry) we collected approx 20eggs, and 11 made it to freezer stage. 3 were used in our first attempt and we were blessed with our son.
Since then we have used up all but 2 of the remaining 8 and have had no completed pregnancies.
I've also topped up my supply (I'm 35) recently, from which we collected 24 eggs, 18 were good to fertilize, 15 did fertilze and 10 survived. I had 2 inserted (unsuccessful) and 8 have gone in the freezer.

DH and I have done one full stim cycle so far. From that, we got 13 eggs. Of these 5 fertilised, we had one 3 day transfer and one more made it to the freezer. This little one thawed beautifully for our FET. Unfortunately, I had underlying medical issues that we didn't know about at the time which pretty much meant both transfers were doomed from the get go so we are on a bit of a break until 2011.
