7 week old bub with a very stuffy nose at night

Hi all.. i was just wondering if i should be worried about K or if there is something i can do to help her clear her very stuffy nose...

She has had a blocked nose since birth- like since the first few minutes when she was on my chest you could hear it when she breathed- and now during the night- usually from about 3-4am til we get up at 8 ish the poor dear is just like sniffing and trying to blow and sniff and blow and sniff. Eventually in the morning a big blob will come out or there are (TMI) crusty bits i can pick out, but sure enough, everynight again there is more.

She is fine during the day- no cough, no fever, no nothing, i guess i am just concerned it may be some fluid she retained during birth as she had it right away... (she was a csection- labour had sarted slowly.. but i didnt progress and i had already had two csections previously- so they went ahead with a csection) the MCHN said it might stay this way until her nose grows a bit and whatever is in there has a clear passage out kind of thing... i dont know..

has anyone elses newborn bub had something similar???? Should i be worried? Any tips other than picking and catching the blob of snot as she blows it out when she tries to breathe?

Maybe discuss with your doctor, it's not something I've heard of before. DD had a shocking cold when she was 4 weeks old and could hardly breathe... we found this thing called NoseFriida - basically you put it in bub's nostril and suck the snot into a tube. It sounds and is completely revolting but when you are desperate and your baby can't breathe it is amazing the yuck factor you can get over! Hope it's nothing and she's breathing clearly soon xx

Yeah, like what thepixie said, you can just buy some FES nasal drops, they should have a sucker device included, and don't use the drops (save them for when bubs is older) just use the sucker thing to suck the mucus out.
It's probably just leftover fluid from the womb, it takes a while to come out, you might her your baby coughing it up every now and then.

Pie had a bit of a stuffy nose after she was born (vaginally FWIW, so I don't know?) but it cleared up fairly quickly.
If you're worried about it ask at your next appt (are you haveing an 8 week check?) in the meantime I would try saline drops, Fess or something & you can get it with the snot sucker like Pixie said. They don't much like it though ;) it is very effective.

DD was like this for quite a while, and sounded really wheazy too. We asked the paed and he said it wasn't uncommon in c-section babies and not to worry, and it did eventually clear up on it's own. It might be worth asking a dr though, every baby's different and it might just help to put your mind at ease.

Thanks Balmaingal.. i do think its related to the csection- as apparently they dont really get the chance to clear their air ways. This is what the MCHN said too.

I have a four month old that had the same issues, also my 2nd daughter had this as well. I find it is when she gets cold her nose blocks up. HAve you tried heating the room at night and seeing if that makes a difference. We worked out that she is warmer through the day which is why it goes away. Still anytime it gets chilly over night and I have not heated the room her nose seems to block!
