We have been going round and round in circles with boys names for ages- I have always loved the name Hamish, but thought it was a bit a of a mouth with our surname which is Smith.
However, after not being able to find another name that we love as much as Hamish, DH and I have decided to go with it, if we have a boy. However we need a really good middle name that has no S's in it to help make it flow nicely.
Any ideas?
have u tried using a family name like ur dads or ur DH's dad or grandad etc?
My suggestion would be a short, "sharp" name. I always reckon Jack is a good middle name (obviously :p) so that might fit... More ideas:

I'm big on meaning, so I would personally go for a middle name that would direct or balance an ambiguous/possibly negative first name meaning like Hamish - "He who supplants (or usurps)". Although, it most probably would be fitting in some ways as I'm sure your two oldest may feel like he will be usurping the attention of mum and dad when he first comes along... ;)

Jason - healer (I know it has an 's' but the meaning is lovely in conjunction with Hamish)
Alexander - man's defender
Brendan - prince
Calum - dove
So for instance, the name Hamish Jason could be said to mean he provides healing by supplanting any pain or negative history. You get the idea...
Owen sounds nice in the middle, not repetitive phonetically. I'm unsure of it's meaning though :/
LOL. It means "born of the yew". I only know that because it's the same meaning as my DS's name - Euan. I picked this name because my name means "yew".:

i like the middle name to have meaning my eldest has his dads name as a middle name my other two dont have one but this one is going to be amali patricia after my nan R.I.P..

Thanks for all the suggestions, at the moment we are thinking Hamish William- William is FIL name (even though everyone calls him Bruce) so we will be using a family name. Also it ends up being a even number of syllables with all 3 names (not that it really matters, but seems to flow better)
*ali* as long as ur happy thats great i actually like william... funny wen i was young i wanted my sons name to be william LOL.. so ppl would call him billy lol... but hamish william smith sounds very smooth not an uncomfortable name to say IYKWIM... very nice choice..:)
