For those that had a D & C and tried straight away after m/c

Did you choose to have the procedure to try again or because you had to?

I am still bleeding over a week later and I am just wondering whether I should have opted to get a D&C when it was offered.

We arent in a rush to try again although we will when Im ok
But I feel like now Im in limbo, cant move on, can't stop bleeding

I feel maybe I should have

Just venting and wondering what other ladies chose to do after a m/c
I wanted to let it happen naturally , So I guess this is just a whinge :(

I had a missed M/c at 10weeks- and was so desperate to start trying again I opted for a D&C, even though I thought maybe I should let it happen naturally, but I didn't know how long that was going to take. I then fell pregnant on the second cycle so I was lucky.

I'm not sure how long things take when not having a D&C but maybe someone who knows will answer soon. :hug:

I had a D&C because I'd m/c days before and nothing was happening, so my ob suggested we go down that path and I was very comfortable with it. I had the D&C in April, waited for AF and then we started trying again. I was pregnant again in July.

I'm not much help. I didn't realise there was another option, was just told this is what happens next.
Then we waited for one AF and conceived the next month.
What are your doctors saying?

We had a D&C because we had no bleeding and they obviously couldn't tell when it was going to start. My bub was 12weeks old when it passed.
We did fall pregnant the next cycle but not because we were trying straight after the D&C.

The Dr recommended D & c If we wanted to try straight away

I just didnt want the actual procedure

im still bleeding and I just want it to be over though there wouldnt be much point doing the op at this stage ( its over the worst part)

I just want to be pregnant and Im worried it will take ages to get my cycle back and it was long and unpredicable to begin with :(

I had my d&c 7 weeks after the initial miscarriage - there was hardly anything left, but I had been bleeding so long that I begged the ER doc who was doing the scan to just give me the procedure. Once he was happy that I understood the risks, he booked me an appointment for 2 days later. If you want the procedure now, talk to your OB and get him to book you in - there's nothing wrong with changing your mind hun :hug:

I had a D&C and got pregnant without AF or a full cycle in between (procedure was on 17 December and est. conception date was first week of Jan...) So I don't think you need to wait for a bleed...

Hi Mum2Romone :hug: I had a D&C after one miscarriage, I got AF on CD30 (normal) then ovulated then got another BFP. I then lost that one and didnt' have a D&C straight away. I was bleeding on and off for 90 DAYS! I kept thinking it would stop but it didn't so then ended up with another D&C. I was so annoyed that I'd wasted 3 months of ttc when it was already taking soooooo long :( Should I ever have another miscarriage again (and I pray to God that is never the case) I would just get at D&C straight away and move on. It's apparently a good thing anyway as it cleans you out ready for a new pregnancy.

I chose to have a d&c both times as I find it distressing knowing what was inside me..
if you want to let it happen naturally then do so. There are other woman on here who have done it. honestly I didn't even know you could but i wouldn't haven't chosen that way anyways (personal reasons)

I had to have a d&c for a blighted ovum. I didnt get AF back and got pregnant straight afterward. Im sorry your going through this :hug:

I too am sorry for your loss.

My first pregnancy resulted in a m/c unfortuantely my baby died around 10 weeks but my body didn't miscarry. I went to my scan at 13 weeks thinking all was fine to be told it had passed. As a result I had a D&C as it could have taken another couple of weeks for me to miscarry and I couldn't cope with that.

I had a bit in the weeks that followed the procedure, I did have AF return pretty much 4 weeks from when D&C occurred and I then fell pregnant after that cycle.

I can understand your frustration with the bleeding, hoping that it will be over for you soon.

with my first m/c well it was a ectopic m/c treated with methotextrate was natural but a slow painless resolve over 4 weeks
next m/c was natural at 7 weeks I bled for over 5 weeks minimal pain but then had massive bleed and ended up in hops for 2 nights
mext m/c was at 10 weeks I started spotting we had scan bub had passed so we had a d/c next day..the reason for d/c I couldn't go thru 5 weeks of bleeding again..
next m/c was at 7 weeks natural...I started spotting on the tues by the thurs I was double up in pain passed baby, then bled on and off for 4 weeks with mild period like cramping

if god forbid it should ever happen again I would opt for a d/c because the emotional pain was far worse than the physical pain...

not sure if that helps, but after d/c m/c I was pg 2 cycles later with DS#1

After my m/c last year I had a d & c... the main reason for this procedure was to ensure there was no retained product...I bled for a week before the procedure too.

Is your Dr/ OB aware you are still bleeding? I would have thought they would be wary of any retained product and would have suggested a d&c

I got preg 3 months after the d&c and in a way the procedure helped me accept the mc and move on (kindof) IYKWIM.

I'd been bleeding small amounts of brown blood for almost a week before I went to see a doc. I had called the hospital several times but was told it was old blood and I chose to wait it out. When I did have a scan the baby had died a week before the bleeding had started. I chose to have a D&C, although the ER doc did agree this was best in my case and would have steered me this way if I hadn't chosen it for myself.

DH and I waited one cycle to try again but having the D&C allowed me to physically recover so that I could move on.

I understand wanting to let it happen naturally though....Part of me wished I could have allowed my baby to leave me in its own time (even though I knew he was already gone) rather than 'getting rid of it', ITMS. But the longer you wait the greater the risk of infection too. Not that a D&C doesn't have its own risks.

I had a missed m/c in November 09 @12weeks (bubba has passed at 8weeks) which i found out about at my 12week scan and my doctor gave me my options and i opted to have the D&C as opposed to waiting it out as i just wanted to grieve & move on. I got AF back roughly 5weeks after the D&C. So it happened we fell pregnant end of December 09, not because we were desperate to start TTC but because it just happened that way.

I had one because it was a suspected (and later confirmed) molar pregnancy and they wanted it out straight away. Waiting wasn't an option.

Because it was molar, we couldn't try again anyway, but I feel like the d & c, despite all its risks, was a great thing to do and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. My cycles have never ben more regular -perfect- than after it - the first AF was a bit heavy and icky, but the next three were perfect, and my girly bits just felt so healthy and "clean"

It's not for everyone, and there is still some bleeding afterwards, but especially with a late m/c, when there's so much stuff down there, I do think it's a good idea.

Just looking over my old thread because I'm going for the d&c in the morning, it's been ages and I'm still bleeding and recently (last two days) it's been really heavy, clotting again, it's ridiculous, especially with a toddler to chase around.


So hopefully I will be all better tomorrow afternoon and finally be able to put this behind us.

I'm so freaked about it all, but it has to be done now, it's even too long.
