*Shame* I must win the award for most neglectful mother today! :

So I had just come home from dropping DS2 at work, DS3(9months old) had fallen asleep on the way back so when we came in I sat straight down in the boobie chair and offered him a BF. A little while into the feed my nipple started to feel a bit uncomfortable, then got quite sore, I popped him off and reattached thinking he must have been on wrong. It got even more painful, I thought is he biting me? No couldn't be, reattached again, still sore. Finally he pulled off himself licked his lips then went to go back on, as he opened his mouth I saw something in the side of his mouth. I had to fight him to get my finger in there to get it out, when I finally got it, it was a piece of sharp, pointy plastic!!!!:o :o I think it broke off a clothes peg.

How could I have not noticed that before and during all the attaching and reattaching?!

What if he'd swallowed it?!

And it must have been in his mouth for the whole car trip as he was playing with the peg basket before we left, and it was at least a half hour round trip!

I feel so ashamed!!!! I deserve more than the sore nipple!!:shakehead::hide:

I took a photo of it because I just can't believe I didn't notice it, sooo lucky he didn't swallow it it could have been very nasty!! :( :(

Don't be down on yourself. You would need x-ray vision to know that he'd pouched it and I don't think that anyone expects Mums to check inside their children's mouths regularly.

I can imagine you must feel terrible but really it was just one of those things..

Awwww - don't beat yourself up over it. Thankfully nothing happened and the only bad thing is a sore nipple! Your DS must have been super careful with it in his mouth, what a clever little one you have.

:hug: These things happen and will more than likely happen again. I will never forget my gf who found a massive wad of lamb tucked in her sons cheek AFTER his nap :o. He was around the same age, seems like they like squirrelling these bits away for later!

Hun I was letting my little bloke play around outside today. He was in arms reach at all times. I saw him chomping on something and you know what I found in his mouth, a piece of gravel.

Sometimes they are just too quick. We are only human and I'm sure many of us (me included) have had similar experiences.

Go easy on yourself.

Don't be hard on yourself willow. I only check DD's mouth after meals, if she'll let me. He's fine and you're fine (sorry about the sore nipple, I hope its not the same side that was blocked the other day) :hug:

ETA - Besides you have two sons that made it to their teens so you can't be that negligent :)

They have super vision and can see things we usually don't!! He is fine and that's all that matters Xx

:hug: hun the cheeky little buggers are very efficient when it comes to hiding things in their mouth.. DD2 (also roughly 9mths) was chewing on a piece of apple almost the same size easily for 20min AFTER i thought she had finished.. i was like OMG what's in there.. get it out out out... oh thank god only apple but still it could have gotten stuck.. i was horrified i didn't know.

Take comfort in knowing it must be a trick of theirs.

Oh I really don't enjoy this stage where they stick everything in their mouths. It's not easy. I can completely understand why you couldn't see it either - it is skin coloured to start with and if your little guy is like my kids, they clench their jaws closed if you try and look inside their mouths.

It must have been an incredibly scary experience for you. I'm so glad that it wasn't that serious and you are both okay.

Hannah, thanks and no it was the other side, I am a Libran so it's all about balance I guess:rolleyes: lol yes the other two did make it haha so maybe there's hope for DS3 yet :D
