Can Anyone Tell Me About Mildura?

hey there, my dh is really into boating and waterskiing and is very interested in moving to the Murray River. I haven't visited Mildura since I was a teenager, but remember it being a lovely place. I have been googling to try to find out some information about the place, but was wondering if any BBers lived there or knew the area well and could tell me about it?
dh believes it is a great area for waterskiing and that the river is wide and awesome there. i would love to move to somewhere with a 'country town' kinda feel to it. a nice community and a good place to bring up kids. any info would be appreciated. TIA

My family lived in Mildura for 2 years in my teens. Mum and I always said that it was a great place to visit but not to live. Thought TBH we may felt that way because we moved there for my dad's job rather than choosing to live there. The only person I kept in contact with has since moved to Adelaide also. Mildura is too big for that country town feel and it's expanded quite a bit in the last 14 years. For that I would move further down river to Loxton or Berri. Also, my high school experience didn't leave me with an impression of a nice community.

Sorry I'm not much help. Maybe there are some BBers who live there currently or more recently that have a more positive view to share.

I haven't lived in Mildura but I have visited and my close girlfriends family are from there. It is probably bigger than that small country town but that being said it does then mean that it has better access to shops etc. It is a warm climate over summer often hitting the 40 degree mark. If you are wanting more country I believe echuca is lovely, smaller but you still have access to the murray river, though not sure whereabouts for water skiing, and obviously not sure about employement prospects.

thanks girls, yeah we've actually been talking about it today and are starting to think that echuca may be more of what we are looking for. it is also closer to melb for relatives.
