urgent advice re 8 week old bub needed

our just turned 8 week old is driving us crazy she feeds well once finally settled through the night from around midnight but from 6am till midnight that night she is pulling off all the time at the breast so i give her a bottle or DH does shes still fussy but finishes it eventually. she doesnt sleep during the day and passes lots of wind but grimaces in pain. has anyone else experienced this she isnt get enough sleep making a very tired and cranky baby please help we were at our wits end with her today/evening till hubby got her to sleep after midnight now 1am.

She might have colic or even reflux if she is grimacing in pain. Are you forcing her to feed when maybe she's full and doesn't want any more?

Grab some Infacol drops when you are at the chemist.
Sounds very much like colic.

Also, bare in mind at that time in the evening "cluster feeding" is common. Meaning she will feed often for a few hours before bed, not long maybe but often.
Anyway, try and feed her sitting more upright, burb regularly. When they get tired they can get lazy with their attachment, which can lead to colic, so make sure she is attached properly.

Also, remember that at her age 'sleeping through' equates to about 5 hours, so if she is settled midnight to 6am she is a dream lol But you will find her 'bedtime' will get earlier she will settle sooner as she gets older (and will start waking in the wee small hours most likely).

My DD would go to sleep at about 8.30 every night, but not to bed as such until midnight. This lasted well past 3months, almost to 6 months. Do you co-sleep? Can be an awesome way to get some more sleep for both of you, will settle her more easily and help her get into a sleeping pattern.

we do co-sleep at night which works im more worried about her lack of sleeps during the day she doesnt seem to get enough and fussy feeding leading to her passing heaps of wind after feeds and screaming hard to settle if that makes sense! we are using infacol but doesnt seem to be working today :( i'm over her crying.

Do you swap from breats to formula bottle?

:hug: It's a hard time with a newborn, but it will get better.
Fussy times - often lasting several hours and often starting in the evening - are very common. They're worse when baby is overtied and/or overstimulated. If cosleeping helps at night, perhaps you could try it during the day also. Or do you have a sling/carrier you could put her in? Sometimes just being close to mummy will help a lot at this age. Many young babies have a hard time sleeping on their own in the early months. Also, I don't know if you have a lot of visitors and/or go out a lot...? That sort of thing can really overstimulate young babies, so if so you might find spending a few quiet days alone at home will help her settle a bit better.

Bottles are more likely to give her wind than the breast. If you're using formula also that is more likely to upset her digestion than breastmilk.

One thing that helped us a lot when DS was this age was to tag team overnight. I would take DS for the first half of the night while DH slept. And then we'd switch. It meant we each got a block of sleep. The other general advice is to get as much help at home as you can so you don't have to be worrying about housework, or cooking etc while also dealing with an overtired newborn.
