im struggling ...
I am more determined than ever now after this weekends events that these babies are staying put and I'm going to do my very best to make sure of that so all day i havent picked DD2 up (shes 2 and quite heavy!) have taken it easy infact a lot easier than i could have but i quite liked doing nothing all day for a change.
The biggest thing is because its twins i have to consume an extra 600 calories a day!! Now im the type of person that usually has dinner and thats it so im really struggling.
Can anyone give me some healthy snacks or meals that will help add those calories because obviously they mean good calories!

do you like milkshakes and smoothies? with fruit and yogurt

My dinner tonight is a good one, it's also from the biggest loser website, so it's good carbs and calories
It a Brown fried rice, has tofu and all sorts of yummy flavours. I have had it before and it's packed with flavour!!
Brown rice is apparetly great as is Tofu.
The good thing about Tofu as it's flavourless and will take on any flavour you add to your dish.
I googled Brown Rice and Tofu and the recipe came up from the site.
Next time you see your Midwife, if you are going public, request to see the Dietitian, they should be able to help you as well.

Don't worry too much about your calorific intake. I was so stressed and ill during the beginning of my twin pregnancy that I only put on 1kg to 22 weeks, and I had healthy 6lb2 and 6lb12 babies. Your children will take from you what they need.
That said, there are a lot of quick, easy, snacks you have have which will fill you up. Try getting into the habit of small, regular, meals like cereal for breakfast, toast, rice cakes and sandwiches for lunch. When you are feeling well take advantage of this and slice up veggies to keep in the fridge and munch them with a creamy cheese dip or hummus. Veggie soup is another great one that you can make in advance and freeze in portion sizes. Add some chicken and coconut milk for added calories if you feel you need them.
Good luck with your pregnancy :D

smoothies! i make up one every afternoon that was a recipe my naturopath gave to me to keep my breastfeeding journey up without too much pressure on my body...full of good stuff for pregnant and bf girls!
ingredients:
1 banana
tbsp of flaxseed oil (just check this is ok in pg...otherwise leave it out!)
tbsp of wheatgerm
handful of frozen or fresh berries (we use blueberries: antioxidant wonders!)
1 cup yoghurt (we use greek)
as much as you like of soy milk
1 cup juice (although i use 1/2 as i prefer it less sweet)
mix it all up and voila! YUMMO!

Not too sure about calories, but I'm much the same, only have dinner. Because from previous pregs I know I get naseous, I'm eating small meals or snacks lots throughout the day. My fave thing to eat atm is two rice crackers with sweet chilly philly, topped with grated zuchinni and tomatoes. YUM! And pretty good for you. Having said that I'm eating a bowl of icecream right now hehe.
ETA Cassius I'm going to try that, sounds yummo!

One thing i was going to ask and ill ask in here and hope it gets seen to save making a new thread i cook with alcohol a lot ... steak and ale pies, beef and red wine casseroles etc and i know i should already know this but dont! What im trying to ask is do i have to stop that now or is it still ok as the heat cooks away the alcohol
-
All the alcoholic content is cooked out of the alcohol babe :) I make steak and guinness pies often, I'd be devo if I couldn't have it anymore!
-
yum PZ, must get your recipe
Subscribing to get some ideas :)
-
Ill do some research for you hun and let you know:)
Kick into doula mode
-
I've heard before that not all of the alcohol gets cooked out, I personally thought all of it was...I think that if you cook it well, over 50 degrees and let it simmer for a good amount of time you should be fine. Women have been eating spag bol etc whilst utd for ages afterall ;)
-
thanks pz and thanks kass i really should come to you first with these questions as you are my doula!
one thing Cassius is I hate soy milk like cannot stand it at all does all the fruit and yogurt take that taste away or just use normal milk
