Safely Disposing of Medicines

I'm going to ask the chemist later today, but thought I'd ask here too.

I have a cupboard full of prescription and non-prescription medications that need to go, they are either out-of-date or not being used any more. How/Where can I safely dispose of them?

Hand them in at your chemist.

chemist or a yellow sharps container.
please don't put them down the sink...

your GP can also dispose of them if your not able to get to a chemist you frequent regularly

I wouldn't even think of doing that :o

After my husband died i was able to take them to the local hospital for disposial , or the pharmacy would have took them just didnt feel right walking through the streets with bags of medication :)

i have heard of it being done soo many times.
especially when someone changes a medication we go bring them in we will dispose of them. "oh no don't worry i put them down the sink.. " 8)

Don't put them down the sink!!! Antibiotics esp down the sink contaminate the environment and lead to more strains of anti-biotic resistant bacteria out there.

Take them to your pharmacy. If there is a local organisation which collects and distributes them to overseas aid organisations, the pharmacy will know, and if not they will be safely incinerated.

Can pharmacies dispose of sharps containers as well? I didn't think to ask them when I took mum's medication in.
