Medical costs.....
After Izzy's accident at creche yesterday, I am just wondering if the CC centre is liable to pay our costs for dental???
Mum seemed to think they would but I am not sure how it all works. The director is calling me later, the room leader in her room was good on the phone and a bit baffled herself why things went the way they did.
If anyone can shed some light that would be great.
TIA

I have never thought of this but I am interested to hear if they are liable. I am thinking that they aren't. Kind of the all care taken but no responsibility thing, maybe??

Yeah that is what I thought babe but thought I would ask anyway because nothing like this has happened. Dentist was only $80 with an xray so that was pretty good I thought.

Never hurts to ask that's for sure.

I would think they would have insurance for accidents on the premises for sure. They really should have written up an accident report though and given that she was signed out without a report done I'd say they have a possible loop hole. Let us know how you go.

Well DH is going to pick up the accident report and they have to report it to DOC's as well because she had to see a dentist. The director was lovely and apologetic but I still let her know I was not happy that nobody realised - one of the girls said they noticed her tooth was up a bit but thought it hadn't come down as it was growing. :o I told her I find that hard to believe because all it would take is to look at a photo of her to see the difference. Also surely they would connect the inconsolable crying, saying her teeth hurt and the fact that it looked a "bit funny" as something that should have been followed up. I didn't ask about the costs yet - want to do a bit of research first and read through the info we get from them.

Yes, they have insurance to cover this. If there is an accident and they make a claim, it's then up to the insurance company to decide whether or not the centre were at fault or if it was a true accident.
Definitely follow it up. If they say they don't have insurance, they're either lying, or kind of dumb and should be liable anyway.

I would have thought that it is just one of those things that happens and they wouldn't be liable. I know that that is the way schools work (and scouts as well) - unless negligence can be proved - and I would have thought that it would be the same, but I am not sure.
Chances are that there was something about it on her enrolment forms - maybe check them if you still have them.
Hope that she is feeling better soon.
