My sister needs help - 22 weeks.

Ok so my sister is putting off seeing her midwife as shes worried she might be classed as high risk and not allowed in the birth centre. For about 4 weeks now shes been having heart palpatations, she says she feels like her heart is beating out of her chest, she says she can actually feel and see her heart beating. I wanted her to see her middie then, but she wont :-( Today she rang me crying and says she thinks she nearly fainted and she was sweating really bad in her head/neck area, nowhere else. It happend twice, she says she will consider ringing the midwife... but she doesnt want to get kicked out. She doesnt have high bp, or protein. My first thought was bubs was sitting on the blood vessel, but then i rememberd her heart. She has miscarried before but i doubt this has anything to do with it?? :pray: everythings ok with her and bubs!!
btw- shes 22 weeks preggas. TIA!!

could she be having anxiety/panic attacks?

Is she having panic attacks? I know it seems like a stupid question - but sometimes I feel like that when I'm having a panic attack.

Although I do remember last pregnancy I got a few heart palpatations - and I fainted in my first pregnancy but that was because I had low blood sugar.

I dont think so, i get alot of panic attacks also and she said shes not thinking/feeling anything at the time and it just hits her. Usually shes relaxing when it happens. A few of her friends have said they had heart palps when they were utd, are they annything to worry about during pregnancy?

Just remmebered i also fainted a few times during mine ..I would get all clamy hot and feel oyt if it,then someimes faint..Although everything was ok with me

Thats good to know shell, ill let her know! I asked her about her blood sugar, she said from memory the mw checked that in hospital (she went in for cramping last week)

Heart palpatations are pretty common. She should go and get checked out just to be sure its nothing concerning. Unless it comes back she had a major cardiac condition she would not be kicked out of the birthing centre because of this.

I've had heart palps too where I actually feel my heart beating in my chest irregularly. I'm fine though. Also get breathless really easily and get hot and dizzy too. Maybe it has to do with all the extra blood us preggies have to pump around our bodies.
Hope she is ok, she should ask her doc about it.

Hmm...Yeah, tell her to stop being silly and go and see one. Go with her for support, but not going is ridiculous.
If she can't birth at the birth centre she can deal with that when the time comes, if there is something really wrong and doesn't get checked out she is just putting herself and her baby at risk for no good reason.

By itself, palpitations are usually nothing to be concerned about. Our hearts pump 50% more than normal during pregnancy to take care of baby and the increased blood volume.

However, it could be a symptom of an underlying problem that may get worse over time if left unchecked. If your sister is worried, please encourage her to let the midwife know what is going on. The heart palpitations won't automatically class her as "high risk"; but if an undiagnosed condition is left too long, she may well end up needing intervention of some sort later (no mama needs that kind of stress).

Well done to your sister for calling her midwife; hopefully all will go well for her and she will be having a beautiful birth experience at the birth centre about 20 weeks from now!

I get SVT in pregnancy (Supraventricular tachycardia) I only get it when pregnant, and it makes me feel exactly like you describe. It hasn't made me high risk in past pregnancies, but they do need to be aware of it. It could also be anxiety though.

I have had this ever since conception! (I am 10 weeks now) I saw my GP about it and he didn't seem to worried about it. I find it worsens with even a small amount of caffeine (which I know I shouldn't be having). Mine feels like a skipped beat which my GP said that I actually have one fast beat and then one to catch up. It happens about once every 10-20 beats. It drives me bonkers! He basically blammed it on pregnancy and said not to worry :o Feels so weird though.
