Do you ever feel obliged to go?

I hope I don't sound selfish and terrible here.....

Today we have another child's birthday party to go to. The friends aren't all that close - DH's old work colleague from moons ago - and DH is working and won't even be there. I have gotten to know the colleague and his wife too, they are really nice, but I won't know anyone else there so will just be running around after DD and DS.

The family live 1 hr 20 min away from us, and I'm soooo tired (not to mention the kids are probably slightly over tired from the childs party we attended yesterday).

I'm feeling really obliged to go to this one today as they came to DS' birthday (well the wife and kids did as DH's work colleague was working - makes them even now lol).

Do you ever feel obliged to attend functions?? Or am I the only one?

Trust me you are not the only one! Today is a case in point. I have a Breast Cancer afternoon tea this arvo to go to that a good friend of mines family has organised as breast cancer is very prevalent in their family.

NORMALLY I would have no problem going but this weekend is the first weekend in around 2 months that DH isnt working, not playing soccer, not going to watch AFL game or going away for work so I was really really really looking forward to having a free, hanging at home weekend. The afternnon tea is around 50 mins away so it really means the whole afternoon is a write off, and I know I shouldnt think like that.:redface: But I just wanna stay at home.

To make it worse my girlfriend in the last couple of months has been to a quiz nite that was for DH's soccer club and been to our house a couple of times to visit (her kids are older so she says it's easier for her to visit me then vice versa which is so sweet) so I really cant not go.

So after all that in answer to your original question, you are not the only one who feels obligated to attend functions.:)

To be really honest i think thats a fair way to travel for somebody who you don't know very well.

I attended a wedding when i was 18 weeks pregnant, i still had morning sickness and was really tired and i went and just sat there pretty much. I couldn't eat anything, everyone else was having fun as they had an open bar and all i drank was juice as thats all i could stomach! while sitting at the reception i kept thinking "i want to go home to bed.."

yes, and it's hard. DH never goes to or takes DD to parties, even if I'm going. It's tiring. Esp working full time. I've often been tempted to call and say DD is sick...

Yeah, I'm the same - we are terrible for feeling obliged to go to things.

Can you say that one of the kids is sick maybe?

I know that feeling... and I've often told a couple of white lies to get my way out.
I never say that DD, or DS is sick. As I worry it'll jinx me and I really don't want them to get ill.
Soo... I normally say the I"M not well. hehehehe.

i feel like this all the time about social events. i was actually beginning to think that there is something wrong with me as i have become such a party pooper! it is hard because you get invited to so many things that it starts to dominate your time.
