Anyones DH work away in the mines???

How do you find it with your DH being away so often? And how does he find it being away from you?

Is there any other advice you have to give from your experience?

DH is considering doing a stint in the mines to try to get us ahead financially (and so I don't have to go back to work in January)

He is currently a government employee and has experience in surveying and GIS mapping so he figures he would prodbably be able to get a mining job based on that experience.

Can anyone here point us in the right direction in order to persue this further?

My DH is considering a FIFO job off the coast of WA. So no experience as yet, but I hope someone pops in that can tell you more about it!

DH did FIFO for a few years, and it was horrible for us (pre-baby)
We are considering ALL relocating to a mining town next year, if need be, but he wont do FIFO again, while we have young kids.
He did 2/2, which is the best roster but his 2 weeks home were:
Tues night - arrive in Perth after 7 x 12hr day shifts (including that day, with a 4am wake up, and then 8pm arrival in Perth)
weds & thurs sleep
then till the following weekend spend time together
Sunday & Monday Stay up all night to be ready to fly out Tuesday 2pm to start nightshift Tuesday 6pm for 7 days
So we really only had 9 days a month together, or 216 hours, rather than 240 hours or evenings/nights, plus 4 48hr weekends. The money was ok, but we were fortunate enough to find a similar paying job in Perth, and we worked TOGETHER there.

Thats not to say that YOU guys will hate it, of course.
