Long story short, my cat my cat couldn't get to the kitty litter the other day so she did a wee on the carpet. She probably held on for ages and couldn't wait any longer. It was while I was out.
What works to get the smell out?
What do/have you used?

I had the same problem in my bedroom. I wet the area with a little detergent & water & soaked up as much as I cold. Then put a heap of Bi carb soda on the area & left it overnight then vacuumed it up once the bi carb had dried. Worked a treat.

Use a mixture of 1/3 Vinegar 2/3 water and scrub the patch with that.
I bought a really expensive cat urine removing spray but found vinegar works even better.

Has anyone had the problem of the cat going to the same place and weeing there again? How do you stop that?
So she did the wee the first time, monday arvo, all week no more anywhere else other then the kitty litter and I was also out of the house alot for hours on end during the week too... But then she did it again roughly in the same area on sat morning ( i think - I've got a blocked nose so not completely sure). I did the cleaning thing and that seemed to be going okay.Smell had gone, as I was told by others. So come to this afternoon when we(the boys and me) got home, my dad ( who we live with ) reckons she was going to go wee there again while he was there. I don't get it! She's not really like this, and nothing has really changed life wise or anything.
My dad doesn't really like cats and carries on feral about cat wee, etc - and then closes all the windows so if the smell was there, and that bad wouldn't you have the windows open at least?
... so I really don't know what to believe.
Wouldn't she go wee in that same place all week when I was out? Why just do it now and then?
ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! If I could just put something there to stop it completely and deter ( sp?) any more wees.
Sorry I rambled and it's all over the place. I'm just having a bad few days and feel like crying without this wee crap ontop of it.
What did you use to clean the area?
Jewel, the reason your cat is going back to the same place is because it's highly sensitive nose can still smell the urine even if you can't. You need to clean the area with something the breaks down the protein in the urine. If you have money to spare, then you can head to the vet and pick up a spray that does the job for you. But if you want to go a cheaper option, then head to the supermarket and buy some BioZet clothes washing detergent. BioZet contains enzymes that breaks down the protein in the exact same way that the vet spray does (there are other brands that have the same enzyme action, but I couldn't guarantee which ones...). Mix some BioZet with water to make a big of a slurry and work it into the carpet and leave for a little while. Then rinse the area as well as possible to remove the detergent (just like you would with any cleaning product you would use). We've always recommended this at the Vet Clinic I worked at before I had DS and everyone has always been amazed at the results :)
YES! Biozet! Forgot all about that stuff. We use to use it at the vet surgery I worked at also!
Efjay - I used vinegar & water, then some bicarb. My mum also said she used this stuff for the smell and it worked a treat.
Mylitta - Thank you so so so much for that. I will go get some BioZet tomorrow morning. Thank you again. Quick question though, do you need to repeat the process with the BioZet, or is once enough?
I really don't know what I would have done without this place. I was going out of my mind, and worrying tons. (I'm a worrier anyways without extra stuffs ontop.)

You should only have to do it once if you get it deep enough into the carpet and on the entire area that was urinated on :)
