Clicking!

Hello and thanks in advance to anyone who reads this ...

My baby is 3.5 weeks old and up until the last few days has been bf tremendously. Lately though he has makes a sucking or clicking sound after about the first 5 or 6 sucks of breastmilk. He then continues the sound and sucking in air and as a result pulls off frequently needing to be burped because of wind. I have tried different positions and pull him off the breast about 5 times during a feed trying to get him attach properly. From what I can tell, his lips and tongue are all correctly positioned.

He is still feeding the same pattern, and doesnt seem like it bothers him, and it doesnt hurt me, its just driving me nuts becuase I know he shouldnt be making that sound. He is definately getting enough food aswell as he only feeds every 3 hours (day and night) and has put on 800g in 2 weeks ... HELP! :wall:

DS makes that sound when he is really hungry and the health nurse told me it was ok as it shows they are getting good suck/breathe patterns

Sometimes it's a sign of problems, but not always.
It sounds like he's doing just fine - I wouldn't worry about it unless you're in pain or there are signs he's not getting enough

I've been getting this too & was thinking the same, but I remember DS doing it too & it did eventually stop.
Good to know its normal, coz its the only problem we have.

Yeah Clover its the only problem I'm having and its hard to take - hate to think how people with attachment problems feel :(

When he is finishing his feed and slowly sucking, it doesnt seem to happen but at the beginning of a feed its quite noisy - I guess it is hunger related then.

I think your baby is STILL feeding really well. And a clever baby at that. He has learnt how to regulate the flow and protect his airways by releasing the suction a bit. There's always plenty to worry about when you are a parent - and it doesn't stop. But I wonder why it is worrying you so much as the picture you paint tells us you are doing a great job
