Lump in underarm
My son is 6 days old and 2 days ago I noticed a lump in my underarm. It is not painful or red but I'm worried that it could be a blocked duct. I suffered mastitis terribly with DS1 and I'm really worried that it may develop into something serious. I'm hoping it may just be while my milk is coming in it's aggravated something in my underarm, so thought I'd put it to all of you on here. Any advice would be great! Do you think it could just be something simple related to my milk coming in?

I'm not sure but that seems very possible. Maybe try massaging it in the shower to see if that shifts it.

It's not unusual to have an oversupply at first, and that can lead to lumps (breast tissue extends round under the arms). Try to feed the lump off, or massage/express (don't express too much, just to get the lump if you can).
You can always call the ABA for advice - 1800-686-2-686

I wouldn't have thought that it would extend to your underarm ...
I'd maybe chat with your GP ...

I had lumps starting at my collarbone and also under my arm and everywhere in between! They never caused a problem and settled down very quickly. If they persist or get painful see your GP.

If it doesn't settle quickly with warmth & massage, please see your GP. It could be an enlarged lymph node, and if it's not painful and doesn't go away it needs to be investigated to rule out a more serious cause.

I had lumps in both armpits. Pea size or bigger. They went away around 2 weeks after giving birth. Mine was definately related to engorgement and oversupply.

I get shocking lumps in my armpit when my milk comes in. I have an excessive amount (IMO) of excess breast tissue under my right arm & the milk does pool there & can become engorged. I have a photo from when Iain was a bub. I will see if I can find it.
I would treat it like you would a lump /blocked duct & keep any eye on it. Although for me its really painful

Thanks everyone. I'm hoping it's just something that will go away when my milk settles down a bit. I'm massaging it and putting ice on it between feeds, hopefully that helps. Nikki, what did you do to treat yours?
