Im pretty sure DS has Chicken pox :(

J has had a low grade fever (37.3-38) for the last 2-3 days, slightly runny nose, kinda off his food, I wasnt really worried, till this morning his temp was up around 38.
I have just gone in to him as he woke and he is itching all over like crazy, lifted up his top and he has little raised red bumps on his torso.
so yes, I think he has chicken pox,
is it worth taking him to the GP for a diagnosis? we were supposed to be having a Birthday party for him on sun :shakehead:, I dont want my neices and nephews here if he is contagious. also should I really be taking him out in public if he is contagious??

Don't quote me on it, but I'm pretty sure CP is contagious from a few days before the spots appear and until they have crusted over? Haven't had any recent experience with it though...... it might pay to get him checked out by your GP but perhaps ring them first to let them know/see what they suggest. If it were me I wouldn't be going out in public if he's contagious as a courtesy to others.

Poor little guy, whatever it is I hope it clears up soon and isn't too rough on him, how sad if his birthday celebration has to be toned down :(

If it is Chicken Pox he will get the spots on his scalp. CP is the only viral rash that goes there apparently.

He will be contagious until the spots have crusted over, so another few days. Exclusion from daycare etc is seven days from appearance of spots.

I am really sorry about the birthday, but if it is CP then you might have to shift it to next weekend.

Stock up on calamine lotion and bathes of baking soda help too. Hope he feels better soon xx

Yeah, I had pretty much decided last night, no birthday party, which sucks, as he was Ill last year at this time and we had to cancel last year too. poor little man.

funny you say that Artechim, he is now madly scrabbling away at his head, will have to get the nail clippers out I think.

CP are contagious 48hrs before the spots pop up, and can be caught if one of the 'pox' brakes and it takes upto 14 days for them to show from first infection. poor mite i hope they dont get too bad for him (or you!)

erghh, I feel so terrible, in the last 48 hrs we had mums group and we saw my 5 wk old nephew :( fingers crossed the doc says its not CP. IM NOT HOLDING MY BREATH THOUGH....I have rung all my mums group to give them the heads up, I think I will wait till I know for sure to ring SIL, I dont want to stress her out for nothing.

Hopefully it is something else. Littlies can get rashes with all sorts of viruses. Our Paed said that a rash can often appear at the end of a virus so if he has been unwell for a few days then lets hope it is just the tail end of that and not CP.

As above...contagious from a few days before the spots to until they have completely dried up. I looked it up this morning becuase P's Dad is concerned she had CP...but in realityI think she just has a few mozzie bites as they are not blistery or fluid filled at all.

You are breastfeeding? Can the virus be passed that way? I am not sure...maybe get it checked out. I know that you won't get it if you've had CP before or been vacced, but can it pass through/be carried through breastmilk?

I guess the only good thing if it is CP is that he won't need his 18 month old shots for it. Oh, hang on, your ticker. Duh me! Has he had his 18 month shots? If so, it's probs not CP.

Might also be hand, foot and mouth but I am pretty sure the Dr would have noticed right away if it was.

well, It is CP :( have made all the calls, let SIL know, mums group etc, erghh, I feel horrible. DS is fine though, doesnt even have a temp now, Doc said now the spots are here he will be over the worst of it, just stop him from scratching! You would never know to look at him that he is sick!
I never did get DS vaxed against CP, was going to wait (along with most of his vaxs) till he was over 2, I have had CP TWICE, measles, rubella etc, as a child.

DP thinks he got sick as I have been trying to cut down his BFs, (the child would feed all day if I let him) I suppose it could be possible that my immunity is protecting him a little, hence him not being SO sick? who knows, lets just hope NEXT birthday he is well enough to have a party!

Hey don't feel bad, it's not your fault! Kids catch things, it's a part of life. Not always a fun part, but it's not your fault. Unless you were secretly rubbing him against another child with CP ;) Highly doubt it!

Glad it doesn't sound too full on for him, and it wouldn't suprise me if the BF has kept him better protected.

I'm sure you'll make his spotty birthday a fun one anyways :)

Oh no :( I am glad he is over the worst of it but :( It must have been so hard to make the calls :hug: but just know it wasn't your fault.

Can you postpone his party for another weekend soon?
