Keeping pets off the furniture

We have just bought a brand new lounge suite which cost an absolute fortune. We've always had leather becuase it's so kid and dog friendly, everything jsut wipes off.

I got up yesterday morning to find that overnight the dog had dug on my BRAND NEW couch and there are scratch marks all over one of the seats. I was so angry!! This morning I found that she'd done it again last night on a different seat! My new lounge suite is ruined :angry: She has never done this before, our other lounge is also leather and she has never had any interest in digging on that one at all. So why this one?

The scratch marks aren't deep but I haven't beeen able to rub them off, I'll try some leather cleaner tonight and see if that makes any difference.

What can I do to keep her off the couch? Also does anyone have any idea on if i can and how to get the scratch marks off it?

I had to resort to covering my lounge by throwing a sheet over it to protect it from my dogs. Which defeats the whole purpose of having a nice, new lounge really!

Ohh grr that sucks, our previous couch was not leather and dogs were allowed on it as soon as we got leather couch we said no dogs on it and they really haven't tryed to get on it (they dont sleep inside at night).

We have leather protection warrenty that we can get them to come and fix marks and rips etc but would need to tell a fib about dog or cat damage.

I didn't get the warranty grrrrrrr because we've never had a problem with her on the furniture.

Dogs generally dont like the smell of citronella.
DONT put it directly on your lounge, but mabe put a few drops on some old pillowsand leave them on the lounge. Just dont let any get on the leather.
You may want to try a leather conditioner/cream, that should probably dull the marks but may not remove them all together. Just be aware that most of them are oil based so be careful about sitting on the couch straight away in your fave pants.
She has probably dug into it to make it nice and comfy - like the old couch LOL
Just be aware that most dogs lurve to chew leather too, so if she gets a nibble going on, remove her teeth :D

We have 2 little dogs, one of them is so ditzy and dumb but we have taught them both that when they come inside they sit on a doggie cushion in the loungeroom. They used to come in, run around, jump on the couches with us but with bub coming we wanted to teach them that coming inside means being calm.
It took us one day to teach them that the doggie cushion is their spot.
I made them sit on the cushion kept saying stay and giving them treats when they stayed. Made them wait longer and longer for a treat after I said stay and now they just sit there, they come in and go straight to their mat and stay there unless told they can move.
Could you do something like this with your dog so that she has her own spot and not the couches?

we have a cherry red leather couch and before we bought it we had a cream material of some sort couch that pur dogs were allowed to sit on coz it was old and cruddy.

when we got the new couch our boxer just liked to sniff the couch and NEVER even attempted to sit on the couch, my jack russell on the other hand would be jumping up and down all the time, we just kept on her back teeling her off when she did it.

admittedly our dogs sleep in the laundry at night do they cant access the couch.

but if we go out and its raining they stay inside and therefore would sit on the couch so we got a old blanket and they learnt if the blanket was on the couch they were allowed up.

but a few times when they have had major brain farts they have jumped up and marked the leather. its not to bad but its bloody annoying, we just put the leather cleaner on it and it seems to dull the marks down.

im freaking out they will rip the red leather one day though...

Oh that's so annoying! Bummer about the scratches, hope someone has a great trick to help seal them.

Our dog will jump on the couch if we're out or in bed, so we've now got a couple of bits of wood (old shelves off a book shelf) that we put on before we leave. We just tuck them between the couch and the wall when we're not using them. It was a bit of a pain to start with but it's just habit now - I even find myself putting them up before I go out... to take the dog to the park!!
