Do you have a Ronson?
My mum gave me her slow cooker because she doesn't really use it. I'm excited to try it out (probably make a curry) and as I was reading through threads, I've been reading about a few SC's that don't cook as well as others.
This one is a Ronson. I'm not sure how old it is, but it looks about 5 years old. It only has 3 settings - 1, 2 and auto.
I've never used a SC before so am a little apprehensive about using it.
Also can I use the same recipe I usually do when I make it in the electric frypan-thingy :lol:

Yep mines a Ronson and it cooks really well. It's about 8 years old and I've had no problems with it. I use recipes from various sources and just use less liquid if using a normal recipe. I mostly cook on the low setting (1) for around 8 hours depending on the recipe.

Mine is a ronson with the same settings as yours. I just make up recipes and just add a little bit more water or stock so it doesn't dry out

On second thoughts, might try a spaghetti bolognaise first off. Will do that tomorrow.
Can you cook frozen meat in them? Like if I was going to make a Spag Bol would I need to defrost the mince beforehand or just put it in frozen? Tomorrow it'll be straight from the store so won't be frozen, just for future reference.

Mine is also a Ronson. It is HUGE!!! My setting are High (4hrs cooking time) and Low (8hrs cooking time) Warm (keeps food warm) and Off!
I love mine but the three boys in this house don't like anything I cook in it! I am limited to spag bog sauce! Grrrrrr.

Meat has to be defrosted. Although I have found, depending on what you're making, sealing the meat first in a fry pan cooks better
I tend to make up my own recipes as I go or tweak others to suit. I only tend to use the low setting, put it on in the morning and come back at dinner time

Thanks Vixster - I'll probably end up buying a new one if I can find enough things we'll eat to cook in it as I dare say this one won't be big enough for us.
Thanks UA, I thought that might be the case. I start working next week so it'll be on for a good 10 hours a day from when I leave til the time I get home.

Mine is a Ronson as well and has the same settings as Vixstar's. I can't fault it at all. If it is only small keep it anyway - mine is a big 6.5lt one, but I'd kill for a 3lt one to make puddings and other desserts in.

Nope. I have a cheapo Aldi one that DH got as a birthday gift from his mum (yeah... I know) It's 5L.
I just cook by trial and error, and I don't cook meat any more, so probably not of great assistance!

Audax I'll probably use it more for stews and soups than anything else.. I'll love it come winter!

I have a Ronson too and love it..Admittedly I've really only done lamb shanks and curries and a few other dishes in it but I love it.How did the Spag Bol go? I've never made it in mine as I still use my electric frying pan for that but would give it a go if it turns out alright :)

It turned out well, next time I wouldn't cook it for as long though. I turned it on at 11 on Auto and by 5 it was well and truly done, maybe even a little too much. Though in saying that, I didn't use a lot of mince for the first try, just in case so maybe next time with more it'll need that extra time.
We bought some lamb shanks, I just need to find a good tried and tested recipe to use!

Nella, check out the slow cooker recipe thread - there are dozens of recipes in there and all tried and tested by BB members :)
