Travelling o/s with a 7 month old, very stressed!!

Hi,

I will be travelling with my 7 month old to China in 3 weeks and I am pretty stressed about it. DF is travelling first to find us an apartment, and I will follow with DS and my mum. We are travelling with Quantas, and I'm really stressed about the whole thing.

Can anyone give me any tips to make it as easy as possible? DS has never been on a plane before and he hates loud noise so I am worried he'll struggle. Also, if I can't get the fold out bassinete, how will be sleep????? It's a 10 hour flight from Sydney (we fly out from Melbourne and there will be a stop over there). I am thinking about getting the baby bjorn carrier to carry him around the airport. How far can I take my stroller? In regards to feeding (he's on formula) can I take my container with the measured portions and food in the jars?

Any tips would be most welcome, I am a total stress ball ATM. I am worried he'll cry the whole time and be really stressed.

Have you already confirmed you can have the basinette? I would do that first.

I travelled with DD when she was firstly 3 months and just this week with her again at 5 months. It's not that noisy for them (I don't think) and if anything the vibration lulls them to sleep. I travelled Tiger from Singapore to Thailand so there was no basinette, so DD just fell asleep on me. Not very comfortable for me, but you do what you have to do. I had the baby bjorn for her as well to walk around the terminal with as DS was in the stroller.

If you've booked with an infant, you can get 'infant' meals which includes jars of food....but I'd just take my own anyway. I also think if you just take your formula measured out, then they will be able to give you the warm water for the bottles to mix it in.

You can take your stroller to check in, and check it in if you want to, and then use a borrowed stroller to the gate, or sometimes you give your stroller over in the little alley way to the plane door and they put it in from there.

Try not to stress about it. Your DS might pick up on it and it may just make it worse than it could be. You have your Mum, so you'll be fine!

Next week I'm travelling back to Perth from Singapore alone with a 5 month old and a 3 year old! Now that's scary! Good Luck :)

I have rung the airline and they told me I can't take my pram into the plane as it is very big (it's a 3 wheeler and very wide on the back), so I will just take my baby bjorn. As for the basinette, they told me that they will put a request through for it, but if there are younger babies than my DS they will get the basinettes. I really think he'll struggle if that happenns as he loves to stretch out in his cot.

We flew a few times with my son when he was young and its always been stress free. He hated loud noises too but by the time the plane took off he was generally tired... I fed him during taxiing, then cuddled him to me chest to chest with his dummy and he woudl always fall asleep as soon as the roar of take-off happened! :lol: Crazy for a child who hated loud noise!

Obviously on a longer flight he wont sleep the whole time but I'm sure you'll cope... it's good you have someone travelling with you. :D

I always used a carrier in the airport too but didn't bother on the plane. Just held him in my lap.

How bout some Rescue Remedy for Mum? If you're more relaxed he will be, easier said than done I know! I was so nervous the first time I flew with DD, dosed myself up on RR and cruised through the flight :) Good luck!! Can't wait to hear how it all goes

That's standard practice, although I reckon that chances are at 7 months you'll be fine.

Make sure you take a spare set of clothes for you, as well as bubs, just in case.

With toys for the flight, put a couple of favourites away a few days beforehand so that it's exciting to see them again on the plane.

With jet lag the best thing you can do, which made a phenomenal difference for us, is get your little one out in the daylight at the beginning and end of the day to allow their body to adjust.

Good luck, you will be fine, I flew to the UK and back on my own with DD at 10 months and while the journey there was hard going the way back was an absolute breeze :)
