Super heavy period with Implanon *WAY TMI*

I had Implanon inserted in March this year. From the start I had dramas with bleeding and I would bleed for 2-3 weeks out of 4. Most of the time it would be heavy for a few days then lighten off, go away for a few days then come back again :o

My Dr put me on the pill as well to counteract the bleeding. It worked but only when I remembered to take it :wall: I am a shocker at remembering to take it, hence the Implanon! About a month ago the bleeding stopped and I thought things may have settled down! So I stayed off the pill and all was going well, until last week that is!! I became quite bloated and thought something may have been up, yesterday I got my period. It was not heavy and not light yesterday and was ok with that. Last night I had bad cramps so went with a pad to go to bed with. *TMI WARNING* In the early hours of this morning I rolled over and knew that I had leaked on to the bed, so ran to the loo. When I sat down blood literally poured out. It would have been at good 2tbsp worth. I put a tampon in and within 2 hours it HAD to be changed as it was chockers. The same has continued all day with me feeling blood pouring out.

I would hate to think of how much blood I have lost. There is no smell, mainly fresh red blood with a few small clots. What do I do?! After constantly having periods earlier in the year the Dr told me that my iron levels were very low from having periods so often. I love the convenience of the Implanon but when it is causing all this it is causing me to worry a bit.

Any advice is appreciated.

Sorry, I have never used any form of hormonal contraceptive. So all I can really say is GO GET IT OUT! That seems way to much bother to me!

A friend of mine had the same thing, and ended up getting it removed. Can I clarify something - you have the Implanon in your arm AND are (fairly) regularly taking a contraceptive Pill? I would've thought that would be a HUGE amount of artificial hormones running through you! But I'm not a Dr, just never heard of it before...

With the blood loss, are you feel dizzy or lightheaded at all?

Implanon sounds nasty Hun, if you've had it since March and are having these issues maybe it's just not right for you. Time to get rid of it?

I would be getting it out too! I have it and it works for me but with so much bleeding and having to take the pill it can't be good for you. Maybe talk to your gp as there other options.

Sorry K, my post was everywhere!! A bit like my head and body :lol: I was taking the pill semi-regularly or maybe you could call it sporadically! I would take it for a week or so and everything would settle, then I would forget about it again and the bleeding would come back.

My GP that I see is also a OB/GYN, so I trust what he says but I also agree with you on the amount of hormones I must have running through my body. I don't feel dizzy or light headed yet but I am sure if this continues for another day or two I will and will be back on iron tablets.

Babe I would get it out too. Sounds like it isn't doing what it meant to do and is far more hassle than it's worth. Not sure what your other options are ( coming from me who is using NIL contraception right now and really should decide on something) but a chat about other things you could try might be worth it. xox

The problem is, is that I did speak to my GP about other options a couple of months ago when I had him test my iron levels. There is the IUD which freaks me out, the pill I don't trust myself to take, the injection is pretty much the same as Implanon. So I guess from there is it natural methods which I am not against but I guess I need to explore things further. Mind you, I am SO clucky right now I probably wouldn't care if something happened :rofl:

I guess I just needed to hear from you gorgeous girls to know it's not right what is happening and that it needs removing :(

I don't know about everyone else, but I don't DTD when I have my period. So with all that bleeding yuo have been having. I would say, at least thats one thing.. It is working as a contraceptive! LOL sorry

:rofl: Efjay... that is VERY true! I don't DTD when I have it, so yes it definitely is working as a contraceptive!!

I've recently BTDT with the heavy bleeding - TMI - we're talking about getting though a 16gm super tampon & a maternity pad within an hour. I saw my GP and in my case it's related to my recent medical treatment, but since I can't take any hormones to moderate it (breast cancer), she prescribed a drug called cyclokapron, which slows the bleeding pretty amazingly effectively. It can cause some digestive side effects, and I had to scale back how many pills I was taking, but it still worked well. So that might be something you can use to help while you take your time deciding what you are going to do about the implanon.

Implanon is horrible stuff. Totally screwed up my hormones and my cycles. I had mine in for 8 months and never stopped bleeding the whole time. As soon as it was taken out my periods went to nice normal 2 day bleeds, every 28 days, almost to the hour (arriving same time of day ever month)!

Thanks for the info MD, however I have decided to get it removed. I spoke to DH before and he is glad I am getting rid of it!

Ugh, now to book in and have the horrid thing taken out! Thanks for your input ladies, I think I just needed a little push (not sure why?! :lol: )

Just made an appt today to speak with the Dr and I am sure he will take it out pronto for me.

I am feeling a bit relieved now after having a shocker of a night with the bleeding. Bring it on!!

I'm glad you got the push you needed :lol:. Hope the bleeding resolves quickly...it's a PITA for sure :hug:
