Statement addressing selection criteria?

Ok, I'm not the best at this kind of stuff :redface:

DH is wanting to apply for a coucil labouring job. Its asked for a statement addressing the selection criteria. I have no idea how I should do this...

Does all this need to be listed? Well all the ones that apply? How would you word it?
I'm not sure how to start or anything. Do I just list it in point form??

If I can find it, I can pm/email you my job application I did a few years ago for a council job. I basically wrote a short cover letter and then attached a couple of separate sheets which outlined the selection criteria. Things like driver's licence/certificates etc can just be listed in point form, but the other things like his experience and commitment to OH&S I would expand on.

Whenever I've applied for jobs requesting you to meet the selection criteria I have used qualifications and experience to show this.
I never did dot points just addressed them in my cover letter.

Quite a few of the things on the list would just require listing of qualifiications and maybe a photocopy but for the others they would come down to experience in the workforce.

Also list any Professional Development that he has undertaken that develops strong customer service, team focus, equity and diversity etc I guess and relate this to his previous roles.

Over and above the cover letter and provision of the resume, with govt job applications you need to include a statement that addresses all criteria (both essential and desirable) in the ad, so what I do is list all their criteria as headings, and then put dot points or a paragraph(s) under each showing how you cover each one off. It is a PIA, but necessary to get these roles. If he doesn't have the desirable criteria, just make a quick point of saying that he is happy to train to receive those quals, and perhaps outline any others he might have, or work experience that shows he is capable. Oh I replied to your other thread.

What I do is regurgitate the position description, and also look at the govt job guide website, to fully describe mine or someone else's previous jobs and also the job they're applying for.

There's a lot of formulas around to help you write selection criteria.

One of them is STAR

it something like Situation
Task
Approach
Result

So he needs to think of situations in his previous or current jobs, that apply for each criteria.

Then you write something like

I am very confident in (criteria).

From my previous position or some other wording

then

Situation, Task, Approach, Result.
