Why cant it be me or DF????

i joined the heart kids page on FB and a lovely lady saw my little blurb about Bimbys condition and added me to FB as her little girl has it too.
We've been talking, her case is somewhat different to ours but the same none the less.
She said to go check out her photos because she has an album of pre and post surgery pics of her little girl.

Thinking id be ok i had a look. STUPID mistake, i've been hysterically crying for the past half an hour, DF's not home and i'm a mess. i dont want that to be my little boy! covered in a million tubes and wires, 20 million monitors surounding him, sedated and on a ventilator with a huge big cut on his chest with tubes coming out of it :(

Its so unfair, why cant it be one of us instead? why does he have to go through so so much?

:hug: I'm so sorry Bimby is going through this. It's beyond hard when your child is ill. I hope things are not as bad as you fear and the recovery is fast.

I don't know what to say... But just couldn't not reply.

no little baby should have to have open heart surgery :(

:hug: Hopefully in the end they will have prepared you and when you do see him after surgery you can be less shocked and concentrate on getting him home

I am sure seeing photos now as much as you are upset it will reduce the shock a bit later on.

Thanks so much ladies, still feeling pretty miserable, but i spose its better to get all of that out now so i can be strong for him when he needs me.

It is very confronting and can be very scary, but once you know what all the wires, tubes and lines mean it does help.
It may be worth seeing if you can have a tour of the NICU before hand, just so that you can see everything before you have Bimby, I have spent a bit of time in NICU between having my girls and it really does help, and I feel much more comfortable walking into a NICU knowing what to expect.

It isn't fair :( I wish I could have a crappy lung and my DD is perfect set of two :(

My friend joined heartkids when pg with her twins and found them absolutely fabulous, they helped her tour NICU, answered millions of questions and put her in touch with other mums. She has since done fundraising for them as she was so blown away by their support.
Hard as it would have been to see those photos imagine how much harder it would have been seeing it for the first time on your own tiny baby.

Heartkids is fantastic. I know a gorgeous girl whose little bub went through it all when she was only tiny. Such a shocking thing to go through but I agree that you will be a little more prepared and won't have the inital shock like you are going through now. All such normal feelings, so I hope you're not feeling bad at all as it is only normal.

We're all here each step of the way, so lean on us whenever you need :hug:

I'm sorry your little boy has to deal with these things skybie... it must be very scary for you and DF. I hope you can find some people who have been through this who can hold your hand and give you some idea of what to expect. We are all here for you too xxx

My heart goes out to your and your DH. My DD had closed heart surgery when she was 12 weeks old and 4kg. While it is minor surgery compared to open heart surgery, I know what you are going through to an extent. The ventilator, the monitors, the wires, everything. It was a fairly intense time. It is a year since DD's surgery now. DD did not want to start breathing on her own after the operation which was really scary.

PM me if you want to chat about the hospital experience or anything.

One thing that was really good was having a really close support person for ME. My DH was there obviously but he closes off, and luckily my mum came from interstate for a week and a half. I would have found operation day too much if I did not have her support as I am the "strong" one in the marriage.

I only took one photo, the day before we went home, and it was of her scar. I did not want a reminder of the machines.
