How did you feel the day before you went into Labour?

As the title suggests I want to know how people felt the day before they went into Labour. Did you go from feeling totally fine to full blown contractions or was there a period or feeling increasingly uncomfortable, stomach tightnings etc in the lead up to the real deal?

I don't want to rant but I am just SO uncomfortable, walking is hard, sitting is hard, sleeping is hard....everything is hard! :shakehead:

Also, when can I ask to be induced? I have my 40 week appointment on Monday. Can I ask to be induced on the Friday or Saturday? Do I have a choice on when I am induced?
I really don't want to wait until 42 weeks. I don't think I can wait that long!

Any advice / help is appreciated :)

With DS, I felt fine besides some slight niggles in my back. Mentioned it to my MW at my 39 week appt and she said, nope nothing will happen go home. My waters broke a few hours later :lol: I had slight cx that night but ended up being induced as things didn't progress.
DD I had pre-labour for weeks and the morning I went into labour I didn't notice any real changes other than the cx.

I feel for you, the last stretch is the hardest with no room for bubs to move. You feel so uncomfy all the time, so rant away. I think you can be induced from your DD onwards but anytime before that they like a medical reason. Try and give it some time if you can, rest up as much as possible and fingers crossed your body does it all for you.

Oh Blondie, it is so hard waiting. Specially when it is your 1st. When I was pregnant with Amelia, I was uncomfy for weeks and then the day before I had a absolute rest day, did nothing at all and went to bed feeling great. When I woke up around 3:30am I just knew today was the day and 30 minutes later POP. I was 41wks and was due to go to be monitered that afternoon. My hospital will normally induce at 10 days over.

This time I keep hoping I get the same feeling but so far nothing and as for having a do nothing day, that wont happen with a 17 month old so I will just keep going till it happens. I will do evertything I can not to get induced till 14 days over but I am feeling really good still. I completely understand your want to meet your bubs so there is is never any harm in asking at your next appointment when they will consider induction.

With both my other kids i was 2 and 3 days over due respectively so i was just hanging on every minute waiting for something. But as for how i felt the day before, no different to any other day unfortunately. DS's started with contractions in the afternoon whereas DD's my waters broke during the night.

I stopped sleeping and didn't want to eat for about 48 hours before. I had toasted sandwiches so I was eating something. The day before, I was pretty uncomfortable, but had no idea labour had actually started because my pain was on the top of my belly and wasn't really anything regular. So I just plonked in front of the computer all day, loading cds into itunes and had an icepack on the sore area. Went to hospital at 3am after having about a 1/2 hr sleep and bingo, DD was born 8 hours later!

apart from the usual tired and over-it thing, I was okay. except really really frustrated that this baby would never arrive!
I was 40+4 when i had DS. went into labour at 1.30am (well at least woke up in labour) so i missed the start if there was one.
I did however do a 4km brisk walk two days before, not sure if that helped.

I was due to be induced on the monday... had ds on teh friday so maybe he had a good long hard think about things and opted the natural route.

Sorry I can't really help. With Brendan my waters broke spontaneously at 28 weeks, during the day I had felt tired and slept a lot but I had my glucose test the day before in Perth, but felt fine. I felt horrible the entire two weeks before his birth, but being stuck on hospital bed rest will do that :lol:

With Tristan I just didn't feel right, took myself to hospital where they found I was in the early stages of labour and threatening to go full blown (at 26 weeks) I then spent the next 8.5 weeks with contractions etc on strict home bed rest. Every day felt the same up until he was born.

I felt like i did every other day, uncomfortable, tired, and over it, but i had no inkling that contractions would start until they did at 2am.

As for induction, i think they will do it after 40 weeks if that is what you want.

I went and had acupuncture at 40 weeks, i had 2 sessions and went into labour. the night after the second one. Not sure if it helped, but worth a shot!

I just got out my pregnancy diary to see just how I was feeling! I wrote that I had had less BH but the ones I was having were lasting longer. My plug was starting to come away and looked like snot in the loo!
I was starting to tidy things up. I was very upset and cried quite a bit.

The night before I went into labour, I've written was the worst night ever! I was having very big, painful BH all night that were coming up and down my tummy and across my back.

The actual day (went into labour at 7pm) I was very tired and couldn't even be bothered getting dressed that day. I also got a burst of energy late afternoone and sprinted around cleaning the bathrooms!

I got a burst of energy and was scrubbing floors & the bathroom :) BH started and then there was a long period of "are these BH or CX?". Went to hospy the next day at 8 days over and was induced.

I felt fine, my intergestion (sp?) had gone but I was a bit panicky because BG was dropping a baby swing to me the next day, but my waters broke half an hour after she left

I woke up in the morning and could barely walk my pelvis hurt A LOT i guess DD had engaged. I then went shopping for 4 hours and it loosened my pelvis but i was very tired. I went to bed at like 6:30pm woke up every couple of hours and then at 1:50am my waters broke.

Thanks Ladies for your stories. It just goes to show how different it is for everyone and how each labour has its different characteristics. I was alll excited the other night I woke up to pains and thought that it was all happening but it turns out that I just needed to fart! :lol:

I had what I assume was a "show" 2 weeks ago (this Tuesday) it was clear with little flecks of blood in it and then I have been wiping and getting some snotty looking CM since. I have heard that usually 2 weeks after your show is when you can expect Labour to come...

I guess around this time is when you start looking for any signals that Labour is impending...LOL I just can't help myself. Every little tingle I get I question. I have been doing a lot of resting and have spent most of the past 2 weeks pottering around the house, reading, getting on the Computer and just general fluffing around. I might go for a walk after dinner and see if that helps?

Weirdly though, I have got a nasty bout of indigestion at the moment :( bub is obviously still sitting high. I hope that he engages soon.

Maybe I should send him a message: Come on little man!! Mummy is so desperate to see you and to hold you, come out so that I can show you just how much I love you :)

lol @ needing to fart i cant really tell u how i felt as i was induced with 2 before any pains n my one i had natural didnt even know i was in labour till i found out his head was crowning lol im just as curious as u r!!

i had indigestion in labour lol

the day before i was annoyed coz i was still getting BH's lol

i to was having pre labour symptoms for about 2 weeks. i was 11 days overdue when i had a cervidil cervix ripener inserted to get my cervix ready to be induced 2 days later and the MW told me that the CCR could cause 'niggles' but shouldnt induce labour. it turns out the 'niggles' i was getting was labour but i didnt realise until the contractions really intensified!! 2 hours later i was holding my little man.

as for being induced different hospitals have different policies. i asked to be induced 6 days over but was told they wouldnt induce me until 10 days over or unless it was medically necessary. and if they do induce you they usually just do it when they can get a bed available for you. hang in there, it wont be long xx

I thought that I was in Labour last night - for real! Having some pretty strong cramping and period like pain and couldn 't get comfortable no matter what position I was in. Was up and down all night pacing the bedroom and was getting so excited and then it all stopped! ARGH!

I had my 40 week antenatal yesterday and bub is still not engaged. My MW said that if I haven't had the baby by 41 week mark then she will come to my house for a follow up appointment and do a Membrane Sweep and then if that doesn't solve anything then I will be induced at 42 weeks. She was trying to be sympathetic but it just seems so unfair. I am so uncomfortable at the moment and I have absolutely no energy - I am worried by the time that he decides to come I won't have the energy to push him out. I am also paranoid that the same thing that happened to my friend will happen to me. My friend was made to wait until 42 weeks before they induced her and then she laboured for a day before they realised that her bub wasn't going to fit out of the birth canal and then she had to have an emergency c-section. I was so annoyed for her. If they just induced her at 40 weeks she might have had a chance on pushing him out but they made her wait and she had a horrible experience :(
I think that they should look at what is best for mother and baby and should really take into consideration how the mother is feeling rather then "policy".

So sorry for the rant ladies! You have all been so helpful but I am just getting really anxious :(

Blondie - I was induced at 40+5 and if you can avoid I would. It was horrible to say the least. With induction the intevention rates are much higher for forceps, c-section etc. I am planning to have Accupuncture this time round in the hope that it works prior to having to be induced.

I know you are awefully uncomfortable now, but it wiull be over sooner rather than later.
