DS will always, without fail, do at least one wee after his bath. He seems to know it's coming as he'll stop and look down before he does it :lol: He also occasionally does number twos while I'm drying him off. He seems to be aware and I can now tell he's about to do it, so I have time to grab something. Should I be using this opportunity to get him on the potty or is it too early for things like that? He has only just turned 15 months.
I bought DS a potty when he was around 20 months as he was showing signs and his daycare lady thought he was ready. I wasn't so convinced but bought one to see what happened. We left it in the bathroom and tried to encourage him to sit on it but it was a no go. We didn't push it and he started sitting on it after a couple of months when he wanted to but never did anything. He eventually TT around March this year. DD is 16 months and has no interest whatsoever. IMO it couldn't hurt to buy one and leave it in the bathroom and see what happens BUT I don't think is it necessary as at that age they may know when they are weeing but don't know to put 2 and 2 together IYKWIM?!
i would prob jus buy one and let him know what its there for and let him explore with it... there maybe a couple of accidents here n there but if he wants to use it he will.. i wouldnt push him as such to use it some kids get scared of them n refuse to go near them.. but it sounds like he knows what his body is doing which is sooo cute!! :)
he will use it fully when his ready but at least u know he is interested if he does.. GL
I'm wondering the same thing with my DD... she's just gone 18 months but for the last few when she's done a poo, she'll grab herself a nappy and pack of wipes and lie down lifting her legs in the air... I'm thinking I might hold out a few more months for the TTing, but I am starting to familiarise her with the potty and toilet now. Can't hurt.
Thanks for your quick replies girls! I would never have thought of it myself, a friend of mine mentioned it originally and my first thought was "nah, he's waaay too young!" But have been thinking about it ever since!
You're right - it can't hurt. Might just get a cheap one to have around. In the meantime I'm quite happy cleaning up after him lol :)
DD squats and does a face prior to a wee or poo. she'll grab her crotch for fiveish mins prior too. She's done a few wees in the loo but that was because she was nappyless and wanted me to lift her onto it. No wee in the actual potty yet but I'm not pushing her. Our loo is a tad intimidating for her to use full time as she clings to me:
I don't think it is too early... in fact I am hoping to start DD on a potty soon, in the mornings when we get out of bed she comes into the bathroom with me and will squat and either do a wee or a poo in her nappy, she then wipes her bum (well her nappy!!) with the square of toilet paper I give her to entertain herself while I do my business and then she wants to put it into the toilet. I am not sure about fully TT her but it seems to be that this would be a good time to sit her onto the potty and see what happens.
Charlotte was using the toilet, very occasionally, at that age (we never did the potty thing). If you can recognise that he is aware before it happens then sounds like a good plan.
We were fully TTd by 19/20months with Charlotte, if he is in cloth nappies it can be much earlier than you expect.

I have been using a potty with DS & did the same with DD from about 10 months. Iain has just turned 2 & well on his way to being TT. No nappies in the day when we are home or out for short periods :)

I had my DS potty trained night and day at 17 months as he started sitting on a potty when he could sit up... I have done the same with DD and will with next DS.
I've just started putting DS on the potty whenever I go to the toilet so we can "go together". We always catch the morning wee's (10 days in a row :dance:) and occasionally the nighttime ones. Not sure he knows what I'm going on about when I praise him but his nappy was dryer than usual this morning so I'm wondering if maybe he understanding more that I thought?
I don't think it's too early so long as you don't push it, if he doesn't want to sit don't make him, just go "ok, maybe next time" and leave it at that kwim?
potties are pretty cheap -we paid $9 for ours lol - and even if you don't use it right now you will eventually so I don't think it's a waste of money :)
ive been popping my 10 month old DD2 on and off since about 4 months fot poos and the other day she crawled over to it and started sooking to let me know so they all have their times
Thanks again for all the replies. I only managed to buy a potty about a week ago and Moo LOVES sitting on it! He's always bringing it to me or wearing it as a hat!
I'm pleased to announce that tonight he brought it to me when I got him out of the bath and HE DID A WEE IN IT! He jumped right off and had a peek in there, got upset when I flushed it down the loo LOL.
I know I'm not officially toilet training yet but I'm just so proud of him!
Its never to early to start. Google Elimination communication...
MJ was out of nappies and using the toilet full time by 18 months and was only in nappies from 12 months if she went to daycare.
the trick is to not let it be something that becomes an issue, if he uses it great, if not maybe he will next time

Grats hun. DD is a bit stressed with sitting on her's because she has such a skinny rear. I'm not pushing her and i just pop her on when I wee/number 2's
Hi, my DD wasn't ready for a potty when she was 24 months, we tried for 3 weeks with many accidents. I gave up and just felt it wasn't right. A month ago, I felt like she was ready and she was having heaps of dry nappies. It took only 2 days to toilet train her, she was definitely ready. She is almost 3. I guess they're all different. My dd started sitting on the potty/toilet from around 15 months we occasionally caught a we'd or poo and then at 28 months she woke from a day sleep and asked for her Dora undies ( which we had brought her 2 months earlier as an insentive). In one month we have had about 10 accidents but she pretty much went from nappies to undies in a day and only wears a night nappy now. She is in undies for day sleeps to.
I think it's never to early to get them used to it. With the flushing it down the toilet a get dd to do it and say buy wee.
