Everyone else seems more worried than me... late teether, 16 months and no teeth

As the title says.. should I be worried?? My little man is now 16 months and still has a gorgeous gummy smile!

As soon as people find out DS still doesnt have any teeth, I am asked the same series of questions (What? How is that possible? He is weird?..) and most people (including my health nurse) seem to think I should go get him check out.

I am not so concerned, I figure they will come in their own time, as I was also a late teether as was my sister and brother. But all these comments are almost making me wonder if I should be..

My friends dd was the same too she was 18 months before she got a tooth :)
She did take her to a dr cause she was coping all the same remarks but he said they will come wen they are ready u can't force them but she did go in case something was happening...
I would trust ur own instincts but Mayb get him checked jus to ba able to put these ppl in their place n that way u will also not 2nd guess urself iykwim?? :)

If you and your siblings were late teethers and you had no problems, then I'd say it's just genetic and there's no point worrying. Do you know when you got teeth?

Both mine were late teethers as well. DS was about 14 months when he got his first and DD is 3 in a week and she still doesn't have any molars. I wouldn't worry. There is the option of having a dental xray just to make sure the teeth are actually in the gums waiting to come down but only do it if you are really worried.

My DS2 didn't get his first tooth until 15 or 16 months (can't remember which one right now sorry)

I copped the same things as you are. I loved my gummy little guy and having no teeth didn't stop him from doing the things toothy bubbas were doing. My DS could strip the meat off a lamb cutlet just as well as a child with teeth! lol

One thing that was of a concern to me and the MHN was my sons speech delay. They believed it to be contributed to the lack of teeth and I often wonder if that is true, as when he did start developing teeth his speech picked up too.
