We have been invited to a Christening on the weekend. I have been brought up in a non religious family and don't have any experience of Christenings. Are we suppose to take a present for the baby? What sort of presents are appropriate for this occasion?
yes, christening presents are the norm. people tend to buy something special for the baby to keep, but i think a few nice books is appropriate. no toys!
Thanks Boobaloo would have hated to go and everyone else had presents and we didn't. Also good tip on the toys as I thought toys probably weren't the right thing.
I've given a nice money box before. Last Christening I brought some Christian books from Koorong (sp).
Yes it is the norm to buy a present for the baby. A keep sake is really good. You can get them little silver hair brush and comb sets from places like target n kmart. A nice little engraved frame is a nice idea... with the babies name and the date/occasion etc.
Just looking at their website now CharlieBrownGirl. Did you go with books that could be read to/by the child or something for when they are older?

We've gotten something that is a keepsake for the kids. Things like engraved cutlery sets (spoon, knife, fork, teaspoon), brush, comb and mirror sets or a nice pewter money box.
