until saturday when I gave in a bought a hair straighter :o:o
I had fantastic hair :dance:
I cant believe its taken so long to get one :lol:
so how often can I use it? I lighten my hair so its kinda dry already so I dont want to wreck it compleatly.
I just bought a cheapy and it did a great job so what are the benifits of the more expencive ones?

I straighten my hair all the time. I love it! Make sure you have a treatment though so you don't completely ruin it. I have a GHD, can't live without it. It straightens really easy (I have thick wavy hair), and it'll last 3 days as long as I don't wet it. And that's with the humidity up here. Pretty good I reckon.
I have a GHD which aren't cheap but I like it because it has temperature controls and I've had cheaper ones in the past that just didn't have enough guts for my super thick curly hair.
I go through stages of using it every day and then wont use it for weeks. As long as you have a good conditioner and leave in products you can use it every day...well I've found I can and know many others that use them religiously as well.
I've went from dark brown to platinum blonde a few weeks ago and my hair is still nice and soft after using the straightener.
You can also do curls with it...just look it up on youtube :)
Before kids I use to straighten my hair once or twice a week. Now mabye once a month! It's wavy and I lighten it too so gets quite dry. I use a moisturizing spray before I straighten to add a bit of protection. When I straighten it lasts a few days. At first it takes a bit longer to straighten but as you get the hang of it, you get quicker so during the week you can run the straightener over for a refresh.
Make sure you are using a really good heat protector on it and you could use it as often as you like! Its worth going into a salon and asking them for a product rather than trying to pick up something cheap at the supermarket, it will last for ages and you will have peace of mind you are looking after your hair.
I have super thick wavy hair so need a GHD too, the old ones i was using was taking me over an hour to go over my whole head! Yikes. The other advantage is that it gets hotter, and the plates are made of something that is supposed to protect your hair a bit more.
I don't use a heat protectent, I've tried most of them and I've either hated the smell or they leave my hair crunchy.
I use Redken All Soft heavy cream as a conditioner, then towel dry and use a drop or two of an argan oil product (the main brand name is "moroccan oil" but there are many other brands) and finish with a pump or two of Redken Outshine. Either defuse it or air dry for curly, or blow dry and straighten for straight. Always turns out beautifully soft.
The more exxy straighteners should also have ceramic plates which are kinder to your hair.
I use Keune (from the salon) shampoo and conditioner and moisturising spray. Sometimes I switch it around to Goldwell. They have a little pump bottle of moisturising cream, which I sometimes use to smooth through the ends of my hair.

Mine was only about $40 but works a dream.... I hardly ever get the chance to use it though but have been making more of an effort lately..... Need to colour my hair first though , greys still look grey straight lol

I use the GHD heat protector too - my hair is straight but tends to get 'fly away' pieces as the day goes on, so the GHD works its magic by keeping my hair look freshly styled all day long (wow, was that a plug or what!!).

I get about 3-4 days out of a straighten, and then the only issue is that it starts getting greasy. Even in Brissie wild humidity!
And it's a good price... The smell- oooohhhhh sooo yummy
