DS has constant recurring high temps

DS who is 8 months old now has had a fever nearly every week to 2 weeks and I am going a little crazy.
I went to the doctor and she told me that it was a virus. I asked her if it could be teething as he has 6 teeth already and 3 on the way!
She said that they don't get fevers when teething and that they must just be a coincident.
He never has anything else to accompany the fevers, eg runny nose, vomiting, rash etc.
So do you think that it is to do with teething or he is just a sick bub?
He has been on panadol and nurofen constantly over the past 24 hours and still he is burning up. The doc didn't seem to worried as he had wet nappies and had pooed.
I am still very worried though!

Is his wee smelly at all? Get them to check his urine for a UTI. It's a simple non-intrusive test, if they say it doesn't need to be done...demand it. At least that's something you can rule out if it comes back all clear. It could be something as simple as teething, but it's better to be safe then sorry :) I am only passing this advice on as my son had a couple UTI's when he was younger (starting at 10 weeks old). The doctors took ages to test him for it as he only had fevers and no other symptoms. They told me he should have been in pain and crying, off his food, very smelly wee.....he had none of these.

Have they done all the usual checks - ears, throat etc? DD seems to get ear infections all the time and with the first couple the only sign was a temp that went up & down all the time - her ears weren't red, she wasn't pulling on them etc. I think when doctors don't know what is wrong they just say it's a virus!!! Of course that may well be the case but just make sure you get everything checked out thoroughly.

Well I just changed his nappy and it was quite smelly Marlene. There was also a mark or a rusty looking colour which doesn't look good. Can't get an another appointment till tomorrow morning so hope he is ok till then.

Oh and Fi1980 the doc checked his ears and throat first as she thought that would be the main cause

I cant believe the doc didn't even suggest a UTI Grrr. He could be on the way to getting better not feeling horrible!!

I saw 5 different doctors over 3 days, and then the took him to the hospital emergency room to finally get my DS diagnosed with his UTI!! Our health system is just pathetic!

Well I made the decision to just go up to the doctors as I was just too worried to wait.
I had to wait an hour but we saw the nurse there while we waited. They said he wasn't looking too good and because he had only one wet nappy from 8am till 3.30pm and that there was a nasty pinky brown colour to it that it was probably a UTI!

So we were given antibiotics and told to start straight away. Not knowing that the urine sample we were told to do at home would be invalid as we started him on the antibiotics!
Now I don't know if we will have a confirmation that it was officially a UTI.
I only found that out after calling the health line!

He also started to shiver uncontrollably but we gave him some panadol so he is asleep finally. Still not drinking anything though so have to keep syringing formula and water into his mouth.

Gosh 3 diff docs and still no diagnoses!! Just plain pathetic is right!

Just wondering how things turned out? Hope your little one is on the mend.

It's hard to believe we are the "lucky" country when you hear some people's health care horror stories! The hospital even did a lumbar puncture on DS before they tested him for a UTI...had me thinking he had meningitis or leaukhemia!!! The worse thing was they got blood in the spinal fluid sample, so it was useless! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure I would have been very appreciative of the lumbar puncture if there was something seriously wrong.....but surely urine and bloods are the first thing to be checked?
