He pants like a dog!
My cats spend a bit of time outside these days and I've noticed that when I bring them inside, one of them pants like a dog.
He is more active then our other cat, and I know that cats don't have sweat glands, but he isn't overly interested in drinking much water... He normally comes inside and goes straight to sleep under our bed where it's nice and cool.
He is Ginger and white so I'm wondering if he's over heating in the sun? Should I get some sun cream for him?
Anything else I can do for him?

Hmmm interesting... hope someone can shed some light on his panting Nic.
Don't know much about cats, so I can't offer any advice.

our cat doesnt drink much water that I notice but other than try and keep him inside more I cant think of what else you could do sorry. are the tips of his ears and nose white? cause I knew someone with a white cat and she used to just put zinc on his ears and nose.

POF, his nose is white and his ears are light orange... He's normally only outside for about an hour or so in the mornings before I go to work and them for about 2.5 hours in the afternoon, so he's not out in the middle of the day...

My cat pants like a dog when really scared or there are alot of people around, so maybe he isn't hot, it's nerves. Just a thought :)

Thanks Nicambhar, I've read that as well... He only pants when he comes back inside, or when he's lying under the house resting... It's really strange...

my cat pants when he's hot, so do my mums actually. if its not a sudden occurance i wouldnt worry, if it was happening with vomiting ect id say take him to be seen

Mine pant during summer when they are hot - but if his water intake has increased, I'd be taking him to the vets for a checkup in case there is any problem with his kidneys.

Thanks girls, he seems ok. He's been running around chasing bugs and is now asleep in his hammock :)
There hasnt been any vomitting, and I'll make sure I keep an eye on his water intake
